Marjorie Arline (Stamm) Kincaid

Marjorie Arline (Stamm) Kincaid passed into the loving arms of her Savior and Lord on March 26, 2020 at Pioneer Ridge Healthcare Center in Lawrence, Kansas. She was born on June 28, 1924 to Oscar and Hazel (Elder) Stamm of rural Washington, Kansas.

She attended grades 1-8 at Victory School, a one-room schoolhouse SE of Washington. It was there that she rode her pony to and from school each day. Grades 9-12 were completed at Washington High School. Upon graduation she worked at the court house in the draft office. She met Clifford Kincaid when he was on leave from the Navy, they fell in love, and were married on June 1, 1947. They moved to Fairbury, NE where they raised 3 children: Timothy, Julie, and Laurel. In 1957 they moved to Lincoln, NE where Marjorie was a homemaker and later worked as a secretary in the Lincoln Public School system. After Clifford died in 1999, she moved to Lawrence, KS. She was a member of the Adventist Church there.

Marjorie had a heart for others, especially children. She held a Good News Club for neighborhood children to come to her home and she would share the Bible and the love of Jesus with them. Some of those kids sought shelter at Clifford and Marjorie’s home when their own home life was in chaos; sometimes in the middle of the night. She sewed outfits for the same kids so they would have period clothing to wear to school for the Nebraska Centennial. Several of these kids kept in touch with her into adulthood. A neighborhood bully who scared and threatened her own children was invited into the home (much to her daughters’ chagrin) but the same love and attention was given to him and the bullying stopped. Marjorie enjoyed international students that attended Union College not far from their house and frequently had them over for meals and conversation. One of those students kept in touch with her until the end of her life, calling her “Mom.” She cared for the downtrodden and befriended them “because they have no friends”. She taught her children and grandchildren what it meant to love unconditionally.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her brother, Donald. Survivors include 1 brother, Malcolm (Norma) Stamm, Washington; son, Timothy (Sue) Kincaid, Mentor, OH; daughters, Julie (Mike) Fuhrmann, Lawrence, KS; Laurel (Vernon) Volpe, Kearney, NE; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Kincaid, Adele Bisel, Cara Brown, Vernon & Nicholas Volpe; and five great-grandchildren, Anna, Phoebe, Moses, Mallory, and Lucille; and her beloved nieces and nephew.
