Jane Marie Wiggins

Funeral services for Jane Marie Wiggins, 71, Overbrook, KS, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2014 at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence, KS.

Jane Wiggins passed away on Sunday, August 17. 2014, at her sister’s home.

She was born March 6, 1943, in Lawrence, KS, the daughter of Elwood Arthur Wiggins and Dorothy Rose Pugh Wiggins.

She was a graduate of Lawrence High School in 1961 and earned a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Kansas.

Jane Wiggins lived most of her life in Douglas County, KS and briefly in Hartford, CT. She worked at Hartford Stage Company in Hartford, CT, Center for Research at KU, Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in Topeka, Lawrence Paper Company and retired after 21 years with the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier in 2005.

Jane was a member of the Douglas County Genealogical Society. She enjoyed genealogy and did extensive research on her family history before it was computerized.

Jane was a very spiritual person and enjoyed different forms of spirituality. She enjoyed reading, writing, history, painting, photography, astrology, gardening, the outdoors and was an avid Morel Mushroom hunter. She loved her nieces and nephews and enjoyed doing things with them. She loved her pets and had many throughout her life. She rescued many animals that were in distress.

Survivors include 3 sisters, Lora Lee Johnson of Lawrence, KS, Patty Wiggins of Lawrence, KS, and Candy Norwood and husband Gregg of Overbrook, KS; nieces and nephews, Dan, Kelly, Robbie and Katie Johnson, Jeremiah and Josie Johnson, and Brandon and Sean Norwood; 5 great nephews and 6 great nieces.

Jane was preceded in death by her beloved sister Judith Ann Wiggins in 1952, her Father in 1997 and her Mother in 2001.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to the Easter Seals Capper Foundation or the Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the funeral home.

 

Francis L. Alexander

A Graveside service for Francis L. Alexander, 82, Lawrence, will be 11 am Friday, at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Francis passed away August 12, 2014, at Tonganoxie Rehab Center, after battling Parkinson ’s disease.

He was born August 13, 1931, in Lawrence, the son of the late Leroy and Geneva Bateson Alexander. He attended Woodlawn Elementary School, the three junior highs at 9th & Kentucky St. – Central, Old High, and Manual – and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1949. Before joining the Lawrence Police Department in 1960, Francis worked at Constant Construction as a carpenter and for the Lawrence Gas Company. In 1987 he retired from the Police Department as a Detective. Francis was an avid fan and enjoyed watching and following KU football and basketball.  He was also a giant Kansas City Royals fan.

Francis married Betty Lee Deplue on July 2, 1950, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three children, Larry (Life Partner, Renee Stotler) of Lawrence, Rhonda Busch (husband, Steve) of Fairfax, Virginia, and Duane, of Lawrence; grandchildren Lori Alexander of Lawrence; Larabe (wife, Tammy) of Ottawa; Jamie Stotler, Olathe, Kansas, Jessica Busch, Manassas Park, Virginia, Steven Busch (wife, Katie) of Centreville, Virginia; Cassie Madison of Blue Springs, Missouri; seven great grandchildren, Deborah Busch of Manassas Park, Virginia; Teagan Busch of Centreville, Virginia; Emily Alexander, Mikala Alexander, Makayla Alexander and Scarlett Alexander of Ottawa, Kansas; Sammie Brickhouse and Lexie Brickhouse of Blue Springs, Missouri, and many nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Beverly Springer and grandson, Jason.

Friends may call from noon to 8pm Thursday where the family will receive them from 6pm-7pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials made to Douglas County Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home.

Barbara Rae ‘Bobbie’ Stauffer

Memorial services for Barbara Rae ‘Bobbie’ Stauffer, 42, Lawrence, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Miss Stauffer passed away Aug. 12, 2014, at her home.

She was born April 16, 1972, in Lawrence, the daughter of Ronald Joe Stauffer and Sarah Jene Harrell Stauffer Ray Favreau.

She graduated from Lawrence High School and attended the University of Kansas and Johnson County Community College.  She moved to Phoenix, AZ, and lived there for 14 years, returning to Lawrence in 2008.

Bobbie started working at the age of 13, and has been an internet recruiter for the past 15 years.  She was an avid KU sports fan, enjoyed gardening, barbecuing, collecting frog decorations, and loved her 2 pug dogs Rosy and Lola.

She is survived by her mother, Sarah Jene Harrell Stauffer Ray Favreau, father Ronald Joe Stauffer, stepfather Stan Ray, and stepfather David Favreau; 3 uncles, Tex Harrell, Larry Harrell, and Dennis Stauffer; and 2 aunts, Linda Stauffer and Debbie Fuston. She was blessed with many cousins and friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Lawrence Memorial Hospital Oncology, sent in care of the funeral home.

Marianne C. Hadl

Marianne C. Hadl, 94, Lawrence, passed away August 5,2014 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor. Private services have been conducted.

She was born April 4,1920, Lawrence, the daughter of J.F.C. Broeker and Margaretha C. (Bayer) Broeker. She was married to Loren E. Hadl, Jan. 1946. He died Dec. 1, 1992. Her oldest son, Fred L. Hadl, died Jan. 26, 2006. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School, Lawrence, KS in 1938. She was a homemaker, worked for Lawrence National Bank, USD 497 food service, and Miller & Midyett Real Estate & Insurance. She was a Lawrence Memorial Hospital Volunteer and worked in the old LMH gift shop.

      She is survived by her sister, Margaret B. Sanders of Lawrence, three children, sons David A. Hadl and George E. Hadl both of Lawrence, daughter Margaret Isabella Hadl Hendrix, Claremore, Okla, three granddaughters and four great grandchildren.

David Takao Ozaki

David Takao Ozaki, 44, of Lawrence, Kan., died Wednesday (August 6, 2014), of heart disease.

David was born in Lincoln, Neb., (10-20-1969), to Ron and Millie Ozaki. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1987, a member of the Link marching band and golf team. He attended KU and played in the marching band. He made his home in Lawrence, working  in the restaurant business, the insurance business and most recently as a claims adjuster for Carstar in Leavenworth.

In addition to his family, Scouting was David’s passion. He earned his Eagle Scout with Troop 35 in Lincoln and as an adult worked to make sure his own children – and many others – gained what he had through Scouts. He led his own sons’ Cub Scout pack, was assistant adviser for his oldest daughter’s Venture Crew and served as scoutmaster of Troop 60.

He was district commissioner for Pelathe District, served on numerous district committees, earned a number of Scouting awards and trained many other scout leaders. For years he served as camp commissioner for Camp Naish’s Bear Camp near Bonner Springs.

He also coached his children’s youth basketball, baseball and softball teams.

He is survived by his wife Pat; children, Steven, Caitlyn, Daniel and Megan; father Ron; sister Claire, of Houston;  brother and sister-in-law Andrew and Margaret and nephews Marshall, Grant and Will of Lincoln; mother-in-law Barb Sufian of Lawrence; and special family friend Joan Reist of Lincoln.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Millie Ozaki.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the LDS Church, 3655 W. 10th St., followed by a campfire at Camp Bromelsich, 682 N. 1400 Road, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday to honor David’s scouting career. Dress casual for campfire; bring chairs.

Memorials can be sent to family or Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1260, Lawrence, Kan., 66044-8260. Monies will be used for his children’s college fund, and to establish a Scout scholarship in David’s name.

Marcus George Kuepker

Funeral service for Marcus G. Kuepker, 86, Lawrence, will be 2 pm Friday, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Kuepker died Tuesday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 16, 1927, in Bremer County, Iowa, the son of George and Edna Diercks Kuepker. He worked for Gustin-Bacon in Kansas City, KS, and later worked for Aeroquip in Lawrence.

Mr. Kuepker is a veteran of the United States Army and served in Alaska, he was called back to the service during the Korean Conflict and served in Japan. He was active in the Lutheran Laymen’s League. He did respite care for Trinity Respite Care, Inc. and was on the Building and Grounds committee at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a member of the University Bridge Club and has been a member of the writing group at Brandonwoods since 1990.

He married Cora Poppitz in Kansas City, on Oct. 2, 1955, she survives of the home.

Other survivors include twin daughters Paula and Marcia, eight grandchildren and three great grand children.

He is preceded in death by his grandson Nicholas Willems.

Friends may call from 8 am- 8 pm Thursday where the family will receive them from 7-8 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials to Trinity Respite Care, the Lutheran Laymen’s League, or Immanuel Lutheran Church, sent in care of the funeral home.

Rev. Vernon W. Whitmore Jr.

Memorial services for the Rev. Vernon W. Whitmore Jr., 88, Lawrence, will be at 11 am Friday at 360 Church, 3200 Clinton Parkway, with the Rev. Rick Burwick officiating. The family will receive friends following the service, and a private inurnment will be at a later date.

The Rev. Whitmore died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at Medicalodges Eudora, where he had been a resident for the past year.

He was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Pittsburg, Kan., the son of Vernon Sr. and Velma May Whitmore. He graduated from Pittsburg High School, served honorably in the United States Navy, and later attended Central Bible Institute for 3.5 years. Rev. Whitmore was a senior pastor in the Kansas district of the Assemblies of God for over 55 years. He pastored in Beloit, Ness City, Kensington, Sedan, Coldwater, Haysville, Lyndon, Cheney, Edna, Anthony, Bethel-Wichita, Sterling, and Crystal Springs. Throughout his pastorates, he worked additionally at various grocery and hardware stores and schools.

He married Vera Helen Buford on June 23, 1946, at the First Assembly of God Church in Pittsburg. She preceded him in death in 2005.

Survivors include a son, Tim Whitmore and wife Ellene, Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Rebekah S. Rice and Deb Hall and husband Jim, all of Lawrence; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Roger Whitmore at age 6, a sister, Beulah Whitmore at birth, and a granddaughter, Kelsey Kaylyn Hall, at age 19.

Sandra Kay Moore

Sandra Kay Moore, 73, beloved mother, sister and aunt passed from this life on Friday, August 1, 2014 following a complicated illness with ovarian cancer. A longtime resident of Lawrence, Sandy was born Oct. 8, 1940. Sandy attended Oklahoma State University and received her bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University in 1960; also, a masters degree from Harvard University in 1973.

She married Edwin S. Moore Jr. they later divorced. They have two sons, James Edwin Moore and Gregory Lance Moore, both of Lawrence.

Sandy was an English professor at Haskell University until her retirement in 2014. She was an active golfer and could be found on the Alvamar Country Club fairways in her spare time. Sandy was a season ticket holder to both KU football and women’s basketball. Sandy cherished her sons, family and friends and was always happiest when she was in their company. She enjoyed the writings of Maya Angelou.

The family requests memorials to, Sandra K. Moore Scholarship in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana St, Lawrence, KS 66044.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial Mass will be held at 11 AM Saturday August 9, 2014 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. A Rosary will precede the Mass at 10 AM.

Ron Loneski

On Friday, August 1st, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather Ron Loneski went to his home in heaven to walk with his Lord.

Ron was born in Hammond, Indiana in 1937. He played basketball and football for Bishop Noll High School, becoming an All Star for the state of Indiana.

He attended the University of Kansas, majoring in Education. He played basketball for the University of Kansas in 1957-1959. He was member of the 1957 NCAA Championship game against North Carolina. He was drafted by the NBA, but joined the Army.

Being a member of the ROTC, he joined the Army and proudly served for 20 years, retiring as a Colonel. During his deployment to Germany, he played basketball for the Army and the Belgium National Basketball Team. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, receiving a Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, and Commendations for Meritorious Service.

His love of mentoring others led him to teach for 21 years at Lincoln Prep High School. While teaching, he headed the JROTC and coached basketball. He was named San Diego Coach of the Year in 1991. He continued to hear from many of his former students recognizing his contribution toward starting them on the right path to a better future.

After retiring he married his wife Jackie and moved to Lawrence.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and his loving son Stephen. He is survived by his wife Jackie; two daughters Laura Ann Carroll of Glendora, CA and Linda Schindler of Murrieta, CA. and their mother Elaine Drosos; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Schindler, Eric Schindler, Kevin Schindler, and Danielle Schindler, all of Murrieta, CA, Stephen Bratakos, Marika Howard, Amelia Bratakos, Cedric Johnson of Glendora, CA.; three great grandchildren.

Also, three stepchildren; Susie Smith, Overland Park, KS, Pat Tramposh, Springfield, MO, Cathy Tramposh, Shawnee, KS.; nine step grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Friday, August 8th at 11:00 a.m. Arterra Event Gallery, 2161 Quail Creek Drive in Lawrence, KS. He will be buried at a later date at a military cemetery in California.
