Doris Jean Wingert

Graveside inurnment services for Doris Jean Wingert, 82, Lawrence, will be at 10 am Thursday at Clinton Cemetery, with the Rev. Matt Sturtevant officiating. Doris died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

She was born Apr. 15, 1931, in Lawrence, the daughter of Hobart Lee and Daisy Mae Petefish Cox. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1948. Doris worked as a secretary for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for 12 years. She had also worked at the Douglas County Extension Office, the Wakarusa Valley School cafeteria, and Marks Veterinary Hospital. She was a longtime member of Clinton Presbyterian Church, and recently attended First Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, baking, bowling, playing Bunco, and especially spending time with her family.

She married Lloyd I. Wingert on Apr. 29, 1951, in Lawrence. He survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Larry Wingert and girlfriend Lynn Carlson Campbell, Lawrence; a daughter, Janice Miller, Lawrence; four grandchildren, Kyle (Shelbie) Miller, Troy (Jennifer) Wingert, Emily (Josh) Pritchard, and Matthew Wingert; and one great grandson, Caden Pritchard. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Leta Eckman, and a son-in-law, Jeffrey ‘Pooh’ Miller.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044.
