Marilyn L. Lahm passed away on May 27, 2024. She was born on October 23, 1929 in Davenport, Iowa to Ada and Herbert Happs. After graduating high school in Clinton, Iowa, Marilyn married Kenneth Lahm and they started a family of three boys and one girl.
In the mid 1950’s, the family moved to Lawrence, Kansas so that Ken could help start-up the new DuPont cellophane factory in Tecumseh, Kansas. In addition to being a loving mother and grandmother, Marilyn’s dream was to become a nurse. In the mid-1970’s she completed nursing school and immediately began a career in nursing. Throughout her nursing career, Marilyn was employed by Lawrence Memorial Hospital and private-practice offices. She truly enjoyed every aspect of nursing. Marilyn’s faith was also very important to her. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and attended church regularly.
Marilyn enjoyed many activities throughout her life. She loved to sing. In the 60’s she became a member of the Sweet Adelines. Later in life, she joined the Lawrence Civic Choir and also sang in the church choir. Additional interests and activities included reading, playing bridge, and golfing with family and friends at her favorite golf course, Alvamar. She helped organize many ladies golfing tournaments at Alvamar and she was a past President of Alvamar Country Club. Marilyn especially enjoyed preparing lavish meals for family and friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ken, her sister, Theo, and an infant brother. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Janet (Robert) Bell of Temple, TX, a brother, Gary Happs, of San Dimas, CA, and her four children: Raymond (Roberta) Lahm of Princeton, KS; David (Nancy) Lahm of Lawrence; Sandra (Keith) Gilliland of Lawrence; and Fred (Christine) Lahm of Broken Arrow, OK. Marilyn was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Jennifer (Paul) Pfeifer, Courtney Lahm, Jacob (Lisa) Lahm, Candice Lahm, Shelly (Matt) Johnson, Terry (Mendy) Gilliland, Charles Lahm, and Emily Lahm. Marilyn was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at a later date in Clinton, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn’s name to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Visiting Nurses in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
