A homegoing service for Rozelia Perkins, 92, Lawrence, will be at 10 am Friday at Ninth Street Missionary Baptist Church, with the Revs. Eric Galbreath and Delmar White officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 pm at Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. Ms. Perkins passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at her home, surrounded by loving family.
She was born November 6, 1928, in Little Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of James and Mary Rucker Robinson. She was raised in Indianola, Mississippi and moved to St. Louis when she was 17, graduating from high school in St. Louis and attending a year of college there. She moved to Emporia in 1976 where she worked as a nurse’s aide and a dishwasher. Rozelia was a member of Freewill Holiness Church in Emporia, where she played the piano. She moved to Lawrence in 2010 and attended Ninth Street Baptist Church.
She married Sharky Perkins who preceded her in death, as did eleven siblings and two children, Rose Perkins and Lewis Perkins. She is survived by three daughters, Sondra McWilliams, Texarkana, Tex., Darlene McCallister, Lawrence, and Earlene Thomas, Lawrence; grandchildren Gerald Bailey, Roy Bailey, Dennis Bailey, Diondre McCallister, Latrice Thomas, Lavel Thomas, Dariscia Rose McCallister, De’mira Perkins, Lakeisha Thomas, Mercedes Perkins, and Jalissa Perkins; and a host of great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and many friends.
Friends may call from noon to 8 pm Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 6-7 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, memo: Rozelia Perkins, to help with funeral expenses.
