Spencer Michael Haynes was born on Father’s Day, June 17, 1990 and died unexpectedly in his home in Lawrence, Kansas on October 22, 2012. In his short life he was blessed with a loving family, many friends from all walks of life and a terrific personality. Spencer was a spiritual person who studied and respected most everything. He had faith in God, and was a deep thinker and a great listener. He had an affinity for nature and animals, and enjoyed dirt bike riding, snow skiing, mountain hiking. He also enjoyed going to coffee shops and walks with his mom, rock concerts with his dad and dinner with his sister. He respected and always enjoyed the one-on-one conversations with his Grandfather (Bill Haynes) about his future and life goals. He was gifted in the arts, especially music and had a very special awareness and understanding of people that could have led him to be a great counselor. He played the guitar from an early age and enjoyed giving lessons and showing others an easier way to play. He loved comedy movies, South Park, playing X-box, shooting a game of pool and getting a massage. He was interested in politics and international affairs and he was recently following the presidential race and debates very closely. He attended West Avondale in Topeka and Cair Paravel Latin School. While in Colorado, he lived in Fort Collins and Estes Park and attended numerous mountain camps during the summer months. He especially enjoyed and appreciated the more advanced and challenging camps where he camped and slept under a tarp and survived with only the items that he could carry. He always liked to reflect on how the more difficult camps changed his perception of life and how some people tend to forget the real comforts of home. He had many friends in Topeka and Lawrence, Kansas as well as Fort Collins and Estes Park, Colorado. He always looked forward to his next trip to Colorado to see his friends that still live there. While attending college at Johnson County Community College, he worked at Dillon’s and then Long John Silvers in Lawrence. Spencer was a sensitive and compassionate person and will be missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his parents Michael Haynes, Lawrence, Michelle Frederick Haynes, Eudora, and his sister Bailey, Lawrence, and his two pets Mittens and Koko. He is also survived by his grandparents, William and Gerry Haynes in Topeka, and Michael and Rebecca Frederick, Corpus Christi, Texas, his Uncle Bill Haynes, cousins Sheldon, William and Sam, and Aunt Christie, cousins Jessica, Phillip and Michael, Aunt Barb and Uncle Larry Callahan, and Aunt Bobbie Haynes and cousin Gracie. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday October 26, 2012 at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence, Kansas at 601 Indiana Street. Graveside services will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery in Topeka at 2:00 in the afternoon. Spencer will lie in state on Thursday and memorial contributions can be sent to the Homeless Shelter in Lawrence, Kansas.
