Jack passed away on August 16, 2016. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on October 5, 1931 to James Samuel and Martha Quinlin Moore. He was raised in Lawrence, Kansas. He spent two years in the United States Marine Corps in San Diego, California and then graduated in 1955 with a Degree in Business from the University of Kansas where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
He married Mary Jane Conklin Moore on April 7th, 1956. They have three children. Julie McDonald (Greg McDonald), Joanne Renfro and Tom Moore (Mike Horak) and six grandchildren, Michael, Marti and Kim McDonald and Adam, Emily and Kelly Renfro, a brother Sam of El Paso, and a plethora of granddogs that he adored. He owned and operated the General Appliance store at the corner of 11th and Massachusetts for many years. After retiring, he worked part-time at the Brandon Woods branch of Douglas County Bank.
Jack was quick with a smile and had wonderful sense of humor. He loved spending time with his family, and many friends. He loved playing and watching golf, reading, traveling, KU basketball, KC Chiefs football, vodka martinis with two olives, a twist of lemon and lots of ice and his favorite jacket, Greeny, that traveled the world with him.
He could be found at 9:00 weekday mornings enjoying coffee with his ‘coffee group’, most recently at McDonalds. He felt fortunate to have so many incredible friends.
A visitation will be held at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home on Friday, August 19th, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and the funeral service will be at the funeral home Saturday, August 20th at 11:00 a.m.
The family suggests memorials in his name to The Pathway Home, which provides veterans with support to enhance their lives following military service. Or to the Shelter, Inc. which works to improve the lives of children at risk in Douglas County and can be sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, PO Box 1260, Lawrence, KS 66044.
