Jack Virtue

Funeral services for Jack Virtue, 84, Eudora, KS, will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. A private burial will take place at a later date. Jack passed away Saturday, April 23, 2022, at his home from a recent diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Jack was born on April 19,1938 in Mountain Grove, MO, the son of Margaret (Halliburton) and Archie Virtue.

Jack was a 1956 graduate of Mountain Grove High School. He retired from Farmland Industries after 34 years.

He looked forward to morning coffee with the guys. The love of his life was fishing. He also hunted with his buddies. Hanging out at Clinton Marina and helping around the dock was a favorite pastime. Conversing with all the fisherman and getting the insights on where the fish were hiding. He also enjoyed traveling. He was a Jack of all trades… pun intended and true! He cherished spending time with family and especially fish fries at the lake. He enjoyed making and eating homemade ice cream and never ever got a brain freeze in his life. He loved going dancing with Hazel, which is how they met. The two-step and the waltz were some of their favorite dances.

Survivors include his brothers Norman (Phyllis) of Hartville, MO; Ronnie (Joyce) of Scammon, KS; Leon (Linda) of Houston, TX; Steve (Linda) of Rogers, AR; and Mike (Donita) of Mountain Grove, MO; sisters Linda Virtue Wethington (Raymond) of Henderson, KY and Brenda Virtue Strickland of Mountain Grove, MO; children, Christie Anderson (Larry) of Pacific City, OR; Rick Virtue (Sheryl) of Lawrence, KS; and Tammy Wilson (Stan) of Eudora, KS; and his companion Hazel Rew of the home.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Chris Wilson of DeSoto, KS; Jessica Veit (Chris) of Overland Park, KS; Beverly Jo Virtue of Eudora, KS; and Sophia Klemme of Shawnee, KS; Kyle (Stephanie) Anderson of Salem, OR; and Matt (Miyuki) Anderson of Everett Washington; great grandchildren Daelynn Virtue, Liam Virtue, Charlotte Veit, Kensley Holland, Isabelle and Gretchen Veit, Chloe and Riley Anderson, Jaxson Holland, and Corbin Hohn Virtue.

He was preceded in death by his brother Russell and sister Charlotte; his wife Beverly Jo Virtue; son Monte Virtue, and grandson Bryon Virtue.

Jack was loved by all who knew him and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed.

Ryan Matthew Romero

A Celebration of Life for Ryan Matthew Romero, 39, of Oskaloosa, will be Sunday April 24, at 2 p.m. at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

Ryan went to be with the Angels on April 18th at Heritage Gardens Assisted Living with his family by his side.

He was born August 6, 1982, in Lawrence, Kansas.

He graduated from Lawrence Free State High School and from there he went to Flint Hills Job Corps, where he learned his carpentry and framework that he did. Ryan at times held 3 jobs down until M.S. took his ability to work.

Ryan loved doing puzzles, fishing, looking through change for old and unique ones. He had mastered writing calligraphy and using the Old English Style and was amazing at this. But his true passion, pride and joy was his daughter. Oh how he lit up when Anna was with him. They had a standing Friday night dinner date at Applebee’s. They were truly a wonderful father-daughter duo.

He is survived by his daughter Anna of Quenemo, as well as his mother and father, Rebecca and Dale James, and father and mother, Mark & Lori Romero. Ryan was blessed with five brothers and four sisters, Mark Jr. (Amber) of Richmond, Angela (Kasey) Keck of Raytown, Joshua, Frankie, Samantha Nicolas Manny (Victoria) all of Lawrence, Laken James of Lawrence and Kristina James of Reichelscheim, Germany. 24 nieces and nephews and one great nephew, and his maternal grandparents, Issie, Corinna Bermudez & paternal grandma Lazara Romero all of Lawrence.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandpa, Frank Romero, his aunt Marylou Pierce and cousin Alicia Chavez.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Anna Romero Educational Fund, or Heritage Gardens Assisted Living of Oskaloosa.

Arlene M. Edmonds

Arlene Edmonds, 94, passed away peacefully, Friday, April 15, 2022.

Ms. Edmonds was born July 7, 1927 the daughter of Raymond (Pete) and Bonnie (Miller) Ready in Winchester Kansas. Graduated Winchester High School in 1945. She married Harold V. Edmonds, April 5, 1947 in Oskaloosa, KS.

Arlene participated in the operation of the family business, Harold Edmonds Construction Co. and later the Edmonds Mini Storage both in Lawrence. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, working in the yard and loved watching KU basketball.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and only sibling, Audene Ready. She leaves behind one child, Rick and wife Glenna (Guenther) Edmonds of Lawrence; two grandchildren, Tiffany Edmonds, Brent and wife Larissa (Johnson) Edmonds; three great-granddaughters, Tayor Moldenhauer, Regan and Lilly Edmonds.

Service will be graveside by immediate family at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Visiting Nurses Association – Lawrence, KS, sent in care of the funeral home.
