Doris E. June Crane Boehle

Services for Doris E. June Crane Boehle, 89, Eudora, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Boehle died Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Medicalodges Eudora.

She was born April 4, 1925 in Haddam, KS, the daughter of David G. and Nellie B. Smith June.

Mrs. Boehle worked as a childcare provider for many years. She was affectionately known as “Grandma” and loved all of the children she cared for over the years.

She married William Franklin Crane. He died in 1979. She later married Edward Boehle. He died in 2013.

Survivors include sons, Robert C. Crane and wife Patsy of Colorado Springs, CO, Sheldon Crane and wife Debbie of Bennington, KS; daughter, Beverly Gist of Lawrence; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; step sons, Steven Boehle and wife Marcia of Lawrence, James Boehle and wife Edie Boehle of Lawrence; 4 step grandchildren; and 5 step great grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday before the service.

The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence First Church of the Nazarene, sent in care of the funeral home.

William Dean ‘Bill’ Breshears

Funeral services for William Dean ‘Bill’ Breshears, 65, Lawrence, will be at 10 am Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Breshears died Wednesday, Apr. 30, 2014, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka.

He was born Jan. 30, 1949, in Lawrence, the son of Harold and Helen Hastert Breshears. He graduated from Lawrence High School, and later served with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Bill was employed as a die cut operator at Hallmark Cards in Lawrence for 33 years. He was a member of Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 of the American Legion, where he was involved with the baseball team, and a lifetime member of the Alford-Clarke Post 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He coached baseball for 34 years. Bill was also an avid bowler, and longtime member of the Lawrence Men’s Bowling Association.

He married Sandra Perkins on Mar. 17, 1969, in Lawrence. She survives, along with two sons, Rich Breshears, Baldwin City, and Billy Breshears, Lawrence; two brothers, Eugene (Jim) Breshears and Ward (J.J.) Shull, both of Lawrence; a sister, Donna Kochanski and husband Joe, Ozawkie; and one grandson, Ryan Breshears. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Ward Shull.

Warren N. Facklam

Graveside services for Warren N. Facklam, 79, Winchester, formerly of Lawrence, will be at 10 am Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery, with Pastor John Tweed officiating. Mr. Facklam died Monday, Apr. 28, 2014, in Winchester.

He was born July 12, 1934, in Lawrence, the son of Virgil N. and Anna Vera Oliver Facklam. He attended schools in Lawrence, and had worked for Union Pacific Railroad, Stokely-Van Camp, and most recently with the City of Lawrence, where he was a heavy equipment operator for the street department from 1960 until retiring in 1994. He was an avid bowler, fisherman, and woodworker.

He married Opal Faye Worden on Oct. 2, 1956, in Lawrence. She preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 2012. Survivors include a step son, Raymond House and wife Wanda, Pocatello, Idaho; two sisters, Elsie Wheeler, Garnett, and Rosemary Morton, Gardner; three step grandchildren, Amy Schoen (Michael), Beverly Taylor (Donald), and Raymond House Jr. (Amber); and four great grandchildren.

Charles Randolph Weinaug

Funeral service for Charles Randolph Weinaug, 32, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at his parent’s home, 1027 Hartland Drive in Lawrence. Burial will follow in the green section at Oak Hill Cemetery. Rev. Joshua Lollar will officiate.

Mr. Weinaug died Thursday, April 24, 2014, at his home.

He was born March 4, 1982, in Libertyville, Illinois, the son of G. Craig and SallyDon Donalson Weinaug.

He graduated from Free State High School in 2002. He attended St. Nicholas Orthodox Christian Church, Lawrence.

Mr. Weinaug owned and operated Midwest Windows for the past 10 years. He enjoyed fly fishing, snowboarding, paragliding, scuba diving, and skydiving.

He is survived by his parents, Craig and SallyDon Weinaug of Lawrence; Fiancé, Amanda Steiner of the home; siblings, Robert Carl Weinaug and wife Amy of Lawrence, Rebecca Knight and husband Nathan of Lebo, Kansas, Clay Weinaug of Lawrence; and nephew, Reed Hollis Knight of Lebo, Kansas.

Leota Jane Hyer See

Leota Jane Hyer See, a long time resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away April 25, 2014 in Lawrence, Kansas.

Born October 9, 1928, in Cheyenne, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Bernice and Dr. Josheua V. Hyer. She attended schools in Cheyenne and Garber where she graduated from high school.

She married Robert M. See in 1946 and they raised four sons in Ponca City where she was a homemaker, talented seamstress, and master gardener. Leota was active in local, district, and state level garden clubs and served as an officer in the organizations.

Known to family and friends as “Bugs”, she moved to Lawrence, Kansas in 2010.

Leota was preceded in death by her husband who died in 2007, as well as her parents, brother Bob Vernon Hyer, and son James Richard. She is survived by three sons, Robert Daniel See of Wichita, Kansas, Delbert Earl See of Lawrence, Kansas, William W. (Bill) See and his wife Sandy, and grandchildren Alison See and Ben See, all of Norman, Oklahoma.

The family extends gratitude to the staff at Bridgehaven Memory Care as well as to Grace Hospice in Lawrence, Kansas.

Marie J. Rutledge

Services for Marie Louise Jeanneret Rutledge, 88, Lawrence, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at a later date in McGehee, Arkansas.

Mrs. Rutledge died Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.

She was born August 15, 1925, in Little Rock, Arkansas to Charles and Louise Elizabeth Holcomb Jeanneret. Marie attended McGehee High School in McGehee, Arkansas and graduated in 1943. She married her high school sweetheart, Walter Leon Rutledge, January 13th 1945 following Leon’s discharge from the Navy.The ceremony was held at McGehee United Methodist Church . Marie recalled that Leon’s proposal was a surprise. She answered “yes” on the spot, when he popped the question and they spent the next 52 years together. They had one daughter, Becky who lives in Lawrence.

After marriage, Marie worked for a local bank in McGehee as a teller. She enjoyed a 10 year career at banks in McGehee and Memphis Tennessee. Her husband was an Auditor for Firestone Tire & Rubber Company for 35 years, and his job took them around the United States. Leon and Marie decided to stay in Kansas City permanently after his final placement with Firestone. Marie moved to Lawrence in 2002 to be closer to her daughter.

Marie attended the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence and was an active volunteer in church activities from UMW, staffing the church stall at the Farmers Market. Marie loved the outdoors from the time she was a girl scout growing up, and as troop leader as an adult. She loved all of her pugs from “Meg” to “Snowball” and her 4 grandpugs as well.

What Marie loved most about life was, “life itself”.

Gladys Shelton

Gladys Shelton, 85 of Belgrade, Montana & formerly of Eudora, and the Tonganoxie & Oskaloosa area.

Funeral Services will be Friday, April 25, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Victory Baptist Church in Tonganoxie (2440 South Street) Burial will follow at the Eudora City Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 9AM-8PM at the funeral home and the family will greet friends from 6 – 8 PM that evening.

On April 17th, 2014, our beloved Gladys went to be with her Lord and Savior, she went home. Born Gladys Loree Robertson on July 29, 1928 in Grant City, MO, to Elvin and Florence Robertson. She had two brothers Edgar and David Leroy. She graduated from Grant City High School in 1946. Gladys married
Robert Wyer in 1948 and together they had three children. Sons Roger Dean and Ronald Eugene and a daughter Roberta Faye. For 20 years they lived in Eudora, Kansas and raised their family.

In 1969 Robert and Gladys divorced, Gladys married Charles Seifert from 1972 until his death in 1991. She married Virgil Shelton in 1993 until his death in 2001. Most of these years were spent in the Tonganoxie and Oskaloosa, KS area. In 2006 she moved to be near her daughter and family in Belgrade, MT until her final days.

Preceding her in death her parents, her husbands, brother David Leroy and both of her sons. She is survived by her daughter Roberta (Bill) Guffey of Belgrade, MT, brother Edgar (Dee) Robertson of Fontanelle, IA, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of step children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She wore her faith like her smile, unfailingly everyday as a witness to all she knew and met our shining star forever.

Berdene F. Hird

Funeral service for Berdene F. Hird, 86, Lawrence will be 10 am. Wednesday, April 23, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Mrs. Hird died Saturday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 29, 1927 in Lawrence, the daughter of John W. and Priscilla M. Buchheim Unger.

She grew up in the Stull community, attended Lawrence public schools and graduated Liberty Memorial High in 1945. Mrs. Hird delivered the Lawrence Journal-World for many years, worked at Pladium Bowl, Royal Lanes, and Hillcrest Bowling Alley retiring in 1997.

She married Robert W. Hird on June 4, 1949 in Lawrence. He preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 1999.

Survivors include a daughter Diana L. McNish (Dennis) of Lawrence, sons John A. (Maraih) of Dallas, Richard A. (Diana Huseby) of Lawrence, grandchildren Lisa Chamberlain, Brian McNish (Kris), and 5 great-grandchildren.

She will lay in state Tuesday noon to 8 pm. where the family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 pm.

Robert Wyer

Graveside inurnment services will be Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Eudora City Cemetery.

On April 23, 2013, our beloved Robert Wyer “”Barb Wire”” was released into God’s care. Robert was born Aug. 27, 1925, to Orvia B. and Adeline (Boomgaarn) Wyer in Humboldt, Neb. He was raised on the family farm outside of Worth, Mo., with his brothers, Marion and George; and his sister, Ethel May; all deceased with George just passing three days earlier.

Robert graduated from Grant City High School on May 13, 1943. Soon afterwards, he was inducted into the United States Marine Corp on Nov. 12, 1943, to serve in World War II on the beaches of Okinawa, Peleliu, and the Palau Islands in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged as Corporal First Class on March 21, 1946.

He married Gladys Robertson on Feb. 14, 1948. They bought a small farm outside of Eudora, Kan., where they raised their children. His sons, Ronald Eugene and Roger Dean, both preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughter, Roberta Fay (Bill) Wyer Guffey; grandchildren, Jamie (Bryon) Robb and Jason (Britny) Guffey; and great-grandchildren, Nathan Justice, Teaghan Guffey, Dylan and Kailynn Robb.

Robert later re-married to Patricia (Pawley) Wyer following a move to the Belgrade area in 1969 where he worked at Peavey and Con Agra for several years. When other people would have been looking towards retirement, in 1975 at the age of 50, Bob and Pat started their own small engine business, Belgrade Sales and Service. This business carries on today, where he left a footprint on the Belgrade Community that he so loved. The community will always remember him wearing those bib overalls.

To a life well lived and a man well loved and respected!

Vencil Lee Shockley

Funeral services for Vencil Lee Shockley, 87, Lawrence, will be at 10 am Monday at Eudora Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Glenn Weld officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence. Mr. Shockley died Friday, Apr. 18, 2014, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 5, 1926, in Stark City, Mo., the son of Aud O. and Mary Jane Fielding Shockley. He came to Lawrence in 1951, and began working as a carpenter in the construction industry. He has been a member of Eudora Assembly of God since 1954, and was active in tractor pulling at the McLouth and Meriden threshing bees. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and was known as ‘Mr. Fix-It’ who loved to help others with repairs and tasks which often seemed impossible. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

He married Wilma Ruth McCracken on June 14, 1947, in Columbus, Kan. She preceded him in death in 1990. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Harlan, and four sisters, Sarah, Lois, Lorene, and Marie. Survivors include a son, Danny Shockley and wife Becky, Eudora; four daughters, Virginia Armer and husband Aubrey, Topeka, Carolyn Drake and husband Steve, Lawrence, Hazel Bahnmaier and husband Mark, Lawrence, and Kathy Haun and husband Eldon, Richland, Mo.; three brothers, Everett Shockley and wife Kathy, Rogers, Ark., Donald Shockley and wife LaWanda, Powell, Mo., and Dean Shockley and wife Linda, Rogers, Ark.; three sisters, Thelma Trueblood, Wichita, Rena Mae Stephens, Tulsa, Okla., and Jean Roller and husband Merle, Muskogee, Okla.; thirteen grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
