Bertye Allen Transue

Memorial services. for Bertye Allen Transue, 66, Eudora, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eudora Assembly of God Church, 827 Elm St., with the Rev. Glenn H. Weld officiating.

Mrs. Transue died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at her home.

She was born Nov. 28, 1944, in Fort Smith, Ark., the daughter of James Bert and Muriel Trober.

Mrs. Transue enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family. In her later life, she suffered from diabetes.

She was briefly married to Ronnie Smith in 1964, and later married Charles Transue in 1971.

Survivors include a daughter, Julie Thornton, Lawrence; a son, Michael Transue, Lawrence; a brother, Jerry Trober, Eudora; a sister, Linda Effie, Olathe; and four grandchildren, Larissa, Jennifer, Evan and Addie.

Shirley M. Savage

Graveside Services for Shirley M. Savage, 73, Lawrence will be 12:30 P.M. Monday, September 26, 2011 at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Mrs. Savage died Friday September 23, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born January 27, 1938, in Lawrence, the daughter of William and Clara Lebineau Henak Sr.

She graduated from Linwood High School in 1956. She worked for Kansas Power and Light as an Executive Secretary retiring after 20 years, and also was an Avon Representative for 25 years.

Mrs. Savage married Richard Lee Savage on August 30, 1958 in Eudora. He proceeded her in death on January 13, 1993. She was also proceeded in death by one sister; Barbara Kirkman, Linwood, KS.

Survivors include a daughter, Deidre Savage, Lawrence; son, Anthony Savage and his wife Brigid, Gainesville, GA; brother, William Henak, Jr., Kansas City, KS; sister, Betty Hoeykens, Platt Woods, MO. 1 granddaughter, Hannah

Harvey M. Burwick

Harvey Morris Burwick, 87, died Friday, September 23, 2011 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 27, at 10:00 a.m. at Hillside Baptist Church, Dickinson, North Dakota. Visitation will be at Stevenson Funeral Home from 3:00-9:00 p.m. on Monday September 26.

Harvey was born March 1, 1924 to Richard and Signe (Johnson) Burwick. He graduated from New England High School where he met (Mary) Alice Larson. They were married December 20, 1944 and after residing in Dickinson and Lisbon they established their farm in 1948, near the Daglum community, SW of Dickinson. They lived there until 1977, when they moved into Dickinson.

Two sons were born to Harvey & Alice, and later they adopted a daughter. This marriage of 45 years was broken by Alice’s death in 1990.

Harvey loved farming and was known for being progressive and wise in conservation practices. He owned Burwick’s Power Equipment, 1978 -1984. He served on school boards, political committees, and the Board of Directors for Williston Boy’s Home. As a youth, he was confirmed at Daglum Lutheran Church. After marriage, he was active on the church board at New England Assemblies of God and later at Hillside Baptist Church in Dickinson. He found great joy in being generous. He supported missions world-wide, and after retirement, Harvey was very involved with the House of Manna in Dickinson.

Four years after Alice’s death, Harvey married Marvel (Johnson) Will on August 7, 1994. They resided in Bismarck, where they were active at Evangel Temple A/G. Harvey enjoyed participating in the lives of Marvel’s six children and their families. After Marvel’s death in 2005, he moved near his children in Missouri and Kansas.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Fern; two brothers, Sidney and Milo; and a grandson, John. Harvey is survived by two sons and a daughter (Douglas & Linda of Ozark MO, Richard & Monica of Lawrence KS, and Kim Burwick of Springfield MO), 6 step-children (Vernon, Phyllis, Roger, Ruth, Faye, Lori) and their families, 5 grand-children (Bryan, Regina, Trevor, Michael, and Jeffrey), and 12 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends.

Interment will be at the Dickinson Cemetery.

Charles Eugene Lindell

Funeral services for Charles Eugene Lindell, 94, Baldwin City, formerly of Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dr. Gary W. Teske officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Lindell died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at Vintage Park at Baldwin.

He was born Apr. 22, 1917, in Lone Star, the son of Earl E. and Mattie Lutz Lindell. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School, and later attended Chillicothe Business School. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II.

Mr. Lindell worked in production at FMC for 28 years. He had previously worked at Ernst & Son Hardware and Ransdell Motor Co. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed traveling to 48 states, Canada and Mexico, and enjoyed spending time with family, and watching his grandsons grow up, play sports, and marry.

He married Pauline Richards on Sept. 28, 1940, in Lawrence. She preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 2010.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Lisher and husband Mel Jr., Lawrence; a brother, Elmer Lindell, Lawrence; three sisters, Ann Ellis, Huntsville, Ala., Ruby Hjaltalin, Shelton, Wash., and Martha Mason, Lincoln, Calif.; two grandchildren, Chad Lisher and wife Amanda, Lawrence, and Carl Lisher and wife Jordan, Colo. Spgs.; and two great grandchildren, ElliAnna and Reed Charles Lisher.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. The family will meet friends from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Ola Louise Weeks

Funeral services for Ola Louise Weeks, 96, Lawrence, will be at 10:00 am Friday September 16, 2011 at Eudora United Methodist Church, 2084 North 1300 Road Eudora, Kansas 66025. Ola Louise Weeks passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family & loved ones. She was born June 21, 1915 in rural Tonganoxie, daughter of Clyde C. Davidson and Rosalie M. (Hollingsworth) Davidson.

Mrs. Weeks was a homemaker and graduate of Tonganoxie High School (1932), Lawrence Business School and Menninger Bible Study in Topeka. She married Homer Lyle Weeks on May 20, 1939 in Osage City, KS. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 5, 1995 and by her mother and father, infant brother and a sister Dorothea.

She is survived by her children Elizabeth A. Woods (and husband Nicholas) of Eudora, David L. Weeks (and wife Maria) of Lawrence, Julian C. Weeks of Yorktown, VA., and William V. Weeks (and wife Linda) of Eudora and by a sister Mary Rose Robb of Tonganoxie. She was grandmother to 7 and great grandmother to 11.

Louise loved to sing at church events, in the church choir and with the Harmony Singers. Louise was an active member of the Eudora United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and was an MYF leader along with her husband Lyle. She held offices in United Methodist Women and the Gideon’s Ladies Auxiliary. Louise loved to bake cookies for the Eudora United Methodist Church preschool, even into her nineties.

Louise was actively involved in the Belleview 4H, Meadowlark 4H and Vinland Valley 4H clubs. She was also active in the EHU, where she was honored for 50 years of active membership in these organizations in 1995.

Louise is remembered by her family and friends as a patient, loving mother and friend.

Delores Beulah Barnes

Graveside services for Delores Beulah Barnes, 76, Eudora will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence.

Mrs. Barnes died Friday, September 9, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born January 7, 1935, in St. Louis MO., the daughter of Ernest and Juanita Harrison Acton. She received her General Educational Development Diploma at the age of 52, from Lawrence High School. She worked for Bendix King for many years

She married William “Bill” Barnes on October 14, 1950 in Rolla MO, he proceeded her in death on April 16, 2002. She was also proceeded in death by one son Frank Barnes who died February 14, 1986.

Survivors include four daughters, Fran Newby, Chrystal City MO, Sandy Barnes, Ozawkie, KS, Norma Mayfield, Oskaloosa KS, Nancy Barnes, Lawrence; one son Paul Barnes, Osage City, KS; two sisters, Eva Wittler, Quincy, IL, Mary Workel, Vacaville, CA.;Twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8p.m.

The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the funeral home.

John Patrick Daly

Services for John Patrick Daly, 40, Lawrence, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial with military honors conducted by the US Navy and American Legion, Dorsey-Liberty Post #14 will be at Reno Cemetery.

He died Wednesday at the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, KS.

Mr. Daly was born June 19, 1971 in Merriam, KS, the son of Edward Eugene and Debra Kay Rocker Daly.

He graduated from South Harrison High in 1989. John served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years, a veteran of the Gulf War. He worked as a Correction’s Officer and Law Enforcement Officer in various Kansas communities.

He married Lacey Will on Sept. 25, 2010 in Tonganoxie, she survives of the home.

Other survivors include, a son, Kyle and daughter, Hope of Denver, Colorado; a son, Jerrod of Kansas City, MO; son, Ty, and daughter, Malena both of Lawrence. He is also survived by his mother, Debra Kay and step-father, Charles Steven Snider of Pattonsburg, MO., a sister, Angela and husband Kyle Cullifer, of Macon, MO., a brother, Jason and wife Tonia Daly, of Chillicothe, MO., a sister, Shannon and husband Carl Templeton, of Alma, MO., and a sister, Stephanie and husband Chuck Litherbury, of Durango, CO. and eighteen nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Friends may call from noon until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Richard “Mac” William McCasland

Graveside service for Richard “Mac” William McCasland, 88, Lawrence will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Memorial Park Cemetery. He died August 30, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born on December 2, 1922 in Desare, Arkansas the son of Jess and Dorothy (Mosier) McCasland.

Mac worked in the Maintenance Department at the University of Kansas for 18 years. He retired in 1981.

He was a ship builder in California during WWII.

He married Rachael Martin. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include step-son, Mike Flanagan, Gassville, Arkansas and one step-daughter, Janet Beck, Quenemo, Kansas.

Jared David Axman

Funeral services for Jared David Axman, 21, Eudora, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lawrence Free Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Eudora City Cemetery.

Jared died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 14, 1990, in Great Bend, the son of David A. and Cynthia K. Stricker Axman. He graduated from Lawrence Free State High School in 2011.

Jared had recently become involved with Cottonwood, Inc. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Angelman’s Syndrome Foundation. He was interested in movies, construction equipment, trucks, tractors, trains, and classical music.

Survivors include his parents, David & Cindy Axman, Eudora; a sister, Alisha Hunley and husband Clifton, Tulsa; maternal grandparents, Glen and Norma Stricker, Great Bend; paternal grandparents, Anthony and Karen Axman, Olmitz; a niece, Kaylynne Hunley; three uncles, Stephen and Ryan Axman, and Tony Stricker; two aunts, Karla Crissman and Michelle Lanham; eight cousins; and his caregiver, Preston Scheibler.
