Sergey Nazarenko of Lawrence passed away on June 21, 2022, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
Sergey was born July 10th, 1960, in Krasnodar, Sherbenovka Russia to Nikifor Nazarenko and Anna Nazarenko. He graduated from school #13 before achieving his diploma in coal mining. After moving to the United States, he worked as an auto mechanic in Lawrence, Kansas until an early retirement.
Sergey was a man of peace who embraced it through gardening and his love for nature. He will be remembered for his unparalleled loyalty, selflessness, nurturing spirit and ingenuity.
Sergey is survived by his dog, Ruben and 5 children. Dennis, Dasha, Oleg, Yaroslav and Galina Nazarenko, as well as his 9 grandchildren, Andre and Katy Nieder-Nazarenko. Neiva, Wriley, and AubriAnna Courter. Anastasiya and Milania Ayala. Alexis and Nicholi Nazarenko. He was predeceased by his life partner Luybov Chayka and his beloved dog Durby.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday June 29 at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Cemetery, 1605 Oak Hill Ave., Lawrence, KS, 66044. A visitation will be held on Tuesday June 28th from 6 to 7 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana St,, Lawrence, KS, 66044.
No public services are planned at this time for Barbara May Chang, 72, Lawrence, who passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022, at The Windsor of Lawrence.
She was born May 13, 1950, in Aurora, Mo., the daughter of Joe and Mary Satnes Swadley. She graduated from high school and later served her country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
She married Edward Kuwn-chir Chang on Sept. 19, 1977, in Independence, Mo. He preceded her in death, as did her parents and three sisters, Frances Ann Davis, Martha Alice Majors and Margaret Joe Parker. Survivors include two children, Victoria Lowe, Lawrence, and Alexander Chang, Kansas City, Mo.; and a brother, Richard Swadley, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; and a granddaughter, Emma Mei Lowe.
Monty Ray Amick, 53, of Lawrence, KS, passed away May 17, 2022. He was born July 9, 1968 in Emporia, KS to David and Donna Amick (Dillon). He attended elementary school in Cunningham, KS and high school and university in Pittsburg, KS, graduating from Pittsburg High School in 1986 and from Pittsburg State University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. He participated in marching band, concert band, and jazz band at PHS and PSU. Although Monty could play several instruments, his primary instrument was the trombone. Monty married Stephanie Nichols on March 10, 1991. Of this union two children were born. They later divorced. He married Megan Hulse on April 13, 2010. Monty worked for the Reuter Organ Company in Lawrence for 24 years as a cabinet maker and finisher. He was the supervisor of the case and finishing departments at the time of his passing. Monty produced many beautiful wooden parts for pipe organs. He pursued his interest in law enforcement by attending the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center. He then worked for the cities of Scranton, KS and Carbondale, KS as a part time patrolman. Monty attended the Lawrence Seventh-day Adventist Church and was an elder at the time of his passing. In his free time, Monty enjoyed being outdoors, hunting or cycling and when he was indoors he enjoyed making items for family and friends such as wooden pistol grips, wooden wallets, knives, tools, leather holsters, and leather gear for a renaissance festival. Monty was preceded in death by his grandparents Betty Amick of Cunningham and Vernon and Margaret Dillon of Topeka. He is survived by his wife Megan of the home, two children; Morgan (Oliver) Amick and Kathryn Jacobson (Amick) and husband Griffin, father David Amick, brother Michael Amick and his sons Finley and Sawyer Amick, and by the mother of the children, Stephanie Swan, all of Lawrence, mother Donna (Lance) Sheldon, sister Maggie Amick and her children Lola, Cade, and Connar Southard all of Pittsburg. Celebration of Life service will be 5 pm, Monday, June 27, 2022 at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home rumsey-yost.com in Lawrence. A Celebration of Life for Julia Ann ‘Julie’ Rector, 60, Lawrence, will be at 10 am Wednesday, July 13th at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory. Steve Steinbach will officiate. Julie passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022, at LMH Health.
She was born May 2, 1962, in Wheatridge, Colorado, the daughter of Robert and Peggy Sue Ann Speer Rector. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1982 and was a 36 year client of Cottonwood, Inc. She was an avid Jayhawk sports fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents Robert Rector and Peggy Santee. She is survived by her stepmother, Jan Grohs, Colorado Springs; three brothers, Mark Rector, Chicago, Jack Rector, Jackson, Colo., and Jon Scott Rector, Kansas City, Mo; her aunt, Norma Jane Pomeroy, Derby; and cousin Lois DeWitt, Kansas.

Bring a dish, BYOB and bring a lawn chair. Gibby passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022, in Lawrence.
Georgia Jean Porter of Lawrence died Wednesday June 15th, at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation.
She was born September 9, 1947 in Iowa City, IA. She was the Daughter of George and Gladys Bell.
She was an Administrative Assistant for over 30 years for the Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Department at KU until she retired.
She was to married to James E. Porter in 1975.
Survivors include a son, Scott Bain, and two daughters, Cheri’ Bain, and Crystal Porter-Faler, a son-in-law Henry Faler, 3 grandchildren, Darren Faler, Shanna Bain and Wyatt Faler and 4 great grandchildren, Trevor, Cole, Harper, and Nikolai.
She was proceeded in death by her husband James, her parents, her older sister Nancy Payne and a granddaughter Cassandra Anderson.
A Celebration of Life for Georgia will be planned later this year.

Ruth Ann Paddock died Thursday June 16 at her home in Lawrence.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. A private graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.
She was born December 6, 1927 in Carlyle, Illinois, the daughter of William Edmond and Lessie Irene (Gillett) Davenport. She attended McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois. She also attended National College (now St. Paul’s School of Theology) in Kansas City.
She married James William Paddock on November 5, 1951. He survives. They celebrated their 70th anniversary last November. Other survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-law, Jim and Debbie Paddock and Joel and Elizabeth Paddock.
Mrs. Paddock was hired as the first director of religious education at the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence in the early 1950s. She later became the first woman to chair the Nominating Committee of the Methodist Kansas Conference. She was the first president of Chapter HZ, P.E.O. She was also active in the Jayhawk Audubon Society, Garden Club, Ladies Literary League, and a number of other community and voluntary organizations.
Ruth Ann was a kind and loving person who devoted her life to serving her family, friends, and community. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

William L. (Bill) Ray passed away peacefully at his home on June 15, 2022. Bill was born August 5, 1938 in Lawrence, KS to Orville and Katherine Ray. He graduated from Lawrence High School and attended the University of Kansas. He served in the Army National Guard and the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1964. He, along with his father, operated Ray’s Garage and Auto Salvage until retirement in 1993. He married Sharon L. Redford on November 24, 1962 and they have celebrated 60 years of marriage.
He was a huge fan of Lawrence High School football and KU basketball. He loved his family and his grandkids and attended every sporting event they participated in that he was able to attend.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon of the home; their children, Craig Ray, Kim Ray, Lawrence, KS and Mark Ray, Baldwin City, KS; grandchildren, Chad (Chelsea) Ray, Chase Ray, Silver Lake, KS; step grandchildren Skye Reid (Christian), Topeka, KS, Derick (Annie) Jaroscak, Colorado Springs, CO; great granddaughter, Reagan Ray and great step grandson Daniel Jaroscak; sisters Betty (Alan) Fenstemaker, Violet (Wayne) Thygesen and brother Gary Ray; sister-in-law Carolyn Pippert; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents and his lovely daughter-in-law, Kerry Ray.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 360 Church (Clinton Parkway Assembly of God) at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Oakhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

She died June 12, 2022, at LMH Health in Lawrence.
Dorothy Miller was born September 12, 1929, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the last surviving child of DA Miller and Mamie Thompson Miller. She grew up in Olathe, attending school there until her senior year when her family moved to Lawrence. Dorothy graduated from Lawrence High School in 1947, which is known at that time as Liberty Memorial High School.
Dorothy attended KU for a year but left school to work at Douglas County Bank in 1952. Dorothy began working at the bank the year it opened and held a long career with them. She started out as a teller and moved up to financial services. In 1993, after 42 years with the bank, Dorothy retired.
Dorothy’s special interests include canoeing, rafting, hiking, and singing in Sweet Adeline’s, a women’s Barbershop chorus. Dorothy has traveled extensively to nearly all of the United States. Her international travel includes Africa, Europe, England, Central America, and Canada. Many of these trips were through Adventure Women.
Dorothy supports a number of philanthropic organizations. Her special interest is with the Kansas Chapter of Nature Conservancy. The Nature Conservancy in Kansas is involved in saving the tall grasses native to Kansas, including the Konza Prairie near Manhattan and the Tall Grass Prairie near Cottonwood Falls.
Dorothy enjoyed the outdoors, taking walks along the nature trail near her home, feeding birds and planting a few flowers. She was a volunteer at Lawrence Memorial Hospital working in the Gift Shop.
What Dorothy loved the most in life is: “freedom to do as I please.”
