Mary “Frances” (Drinnon) Campbell

Mary “Frances” (Drinnon) Campbell, of Lawrence, passed away on June 12, 2022, surrounded by family.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral home, 601 Indiana St. Lawrence, KS. Graveside services will be held immediately following visitation at Reno Cemetery, Leavenworth County, KS. Please dress casually. Arrangements are by Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

Frances was born at home on a farm near Leota, MO, about 6 miles from West Plains, MO to Joseph and Ethella (King) Drinnon on August 26,1941. She went to school in Thayer and West Plains, MO then Lawrence, KS. She married LeRoy Campbell on December 12, 1955, in Hernando, MS. Frances was a young bride and being a wife and mother took precedence, she waited to finish her education and career for many years. She graduated from night school and later went on to Johnson County Community College received her associates degree. She worked as a quality supervisor for King Radio, Bendix-King, Allied Signal for more than 30 years. She enjoyed spending time with family, watching them grow was some of her best and happiest times. She kept a yard full of flowers and many cactuses on her patio. She would spend hours making crochet and embroidery gifts for family and friends.

Frances is preceded in death by her parents, her husband LeRoy was killed on the job on January 22, 1986. She never remarried waiting to be with him again. Her daughter, Judy Kathryn Schmitz preceded her on July 11, 2021. Also, two beloved dogs, Hannah and Barbie, whose ashes will be with her.

Frances is survived by her son, Steven Roy Campbell (Patty) Eudora, daughter, Mary Pamela Jane Alt, (Dean) and son-in-law, Jim Schmitz both of Lawrence. Her 8 Grandchildren: Jamie Dunn (Damien) Lenexa, Ks; Andy Campbell, Eudora, KS; Brett Campbell (Amy) Olathe, KS; Georgia Friedhoff (Rian) Kansas City, MO; Josh Campbell (Erin) Overland Park, KS; Jason Schmitz, Lawrence, KS; Renee Edmonds (Ryan) Lecompton, KS; and Johnny Christian (Alisha) Lawrence, KS; Her 9 Great-Grandchildren, Rhys and Rosalyn Campbell; Isaac, Aidan and Lily Schmitz; Gwyneth Edmonds; Savannah, Caroline and Retter Christian. Her two brothers Coy “Dee” Drinnon, Tonganoxie, Ks and Joe Drinnon (Betty) of West Plains, Mo. Nieces and Nephews Kathy Armstrong, Pat Ramos, Mike Drinnon and Joe Bill Drinnon. Close friends who went out for dinner once a week for more than 30 years Sharon Bunce, Dorothy Delg and Wanda VanDyke. Her rescue dog, Baby, who was well loved.

Pallbearers will be Jason Schmitz, Brett Campbell, Josh Campbell, Andy Campbell, Johnny Christian, Joe Bill Drinnon, Mike Drinnon. Alternates would be Isaac and Aidan Schmitz.

Memorials may be given to Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1260 Lawrence, Kansas 66044.

MSgt (Ret) James E. ‘Robbie’ Robinson

Mr. Robinson passed away Friday, June 10, 2022, at LMH Health.

Robbie was an honorable, kind, and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his children, sons Chuck Robinson and fiancé Barbara, Columbia, MO, and Brian Parson and wife Susan, Lawrence, KS; daughters Tina Christian and husband Jim, Lawrence, KS, Diana Dissinger and fiancé Keith, Lawrence, KS, Lisa Marshall and husband Danny, Henderson NV; and Kelly Shedd, Florida; and sister Patty Lester, Niles, OH; 20 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife Marcia Jean on Oct. 8, 2012, daughter Patty and son Gary, great grandson Brody James, brothers Bill, Lawrence, George W, Jack, and Thomas, sisters Mary and Louise., and his favorite sisters-in-law Pinky and Fannie.

Robbie loved serving his country with the Air Force at Forbes Field with his fellow Brothers (air refueling) Kansas Coyote’s, and he also had the love for baseball, football, and the Jayhawks. He also loved the game of golf, especially the time he went to Myrtle Beach with his son Chuck and son-in-law Jim with some of his nephews – he never forgot that trip.

He always had fun wherever he went and one of his dearest buddies Eddie enjoyed going to Beaver Lake fishing and having fish fries.

He will be missed by so many family members and friends. If you were a part of his life know that he loved and cherished every one of you! The family would like you to know that your love and prayers for all of us is greatly appreciated and we love you too.

Celebration of life will be October 8th, 2022, at Lone Star Lake from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, so please feel free to come join us that day and share fond memories that you have of our Dad.

Dale R. Kring

Dale Kring passed away June 11, 2022, at the age of 92, surrounded by family and embraced by their love.

Dale was born July 25, 1929 to Milton and Aileen Kring and grew up in rural Douglas County outside Baldwin City, KS. He graduated from Baldwin High School and attended Emporia State University. In 1952, Dale joined the United States Army and served in Korea until 1954.

Dale met his future wife, Wanda Bolling, on a blind date where they were each setup with another. After finding each other’s company infinitely more compelling, they ditched their respective dates and went dancing together. On September 2, 1956, Dale and Wanda were married in Bronson, Kansas.

In 1961, Dale entered a partnership with Lou Parsons to open Parsons and Kring Floor Covering and later became the sole proprietor of Kring’s Interiors until his retirement in 1995, at which time his son, Brit, took over the business.

Dale always put family first, never more evident than the way that he, along with Wanda, was so effortlessly involved in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, rarely missing a sporting event or dance competition. Whether it was near or far, Grandma and Grandpa were always in the audience.

Dale’s kindness was never reserved for just his family. He touched the lives of many, never turning down an opportunity to help others with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. Eager to serve his community in many ways, he was a faithful member of Centenary United Methodist Church, coached a youth softball team for several years, developing a bond with a group he affectionately dubbed, “his girls”. Dale could hardly walk down the street without bumping into someone he knew or striking up a conversation with a stranger, even when far from home cheering on the Jayhawks in the Orange Bowl. Dale’s other interests included supporting the Chiefs, Royals and K-State Wildcats basketball, as well as playing cards, golfing, reading, and traveling the globe.

Dale is survived by his wife Wanda, their children, Brit (Lisa) Kring and Kayla Kula, his sister, Beverly Cates, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Aileen Kring, brothers James Milton Kring, Emmett Kring and sisters Elizabeth Shuck and Lynette Martin.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, June 25, 4pm, Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday, June 24, 6 to 7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be submitted to Centenary United Methodist Church or LMH Health Foundation to be applied to the Cancer Center initiative in care of, Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, PO Box 1260, Lawrence KS 66044.

Sean Mitchell Landreth

Sean Mitchell Landreth, 30, passed away on June 8, 2022, from an accidental drug overdose believed to be Fentanyl. During his life, Sean was a loving son, brother, partner, and friend.

Sean was born on August 23, 1991, in Merriam, Kansas. Growing up, Sean had a strong aptitude for sports. He particularly loved playing baseball, football, and golf. He was a gifted artist and had a talent for making others laugh. He was known for his contagious smile and laughter that could fill a room. Sean had a harder life than most, but he always insisted that it was “better than some, worse than others”. Sean’s memory will forever be a part of the mind’s and lives of those he loved and that loved him.

Family was always incredibly important to Sean. He now joins his late grandparents, Jack and Betty Landreth, his grandmother, Barbara Parkison, his grandfather, Ronald Willis, his father, Mitchell Landreth, and his unborn son, Maverick Landreth. Sean is survived by his mother, Robin Willis, his step-father, Craig Willis, his grandmother, Marie Willis, his grandfather, Woodrow Parkison, his long term girlfriend, Anessea Anderson, and his siblings: Elizabeth, Brand and Jess Willis.

Ruth Marie (Wall) Bell

Graveside services and burial for Ruth Marie Bell will be at Stull Cemetery on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 2 pm. Ruth passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the age of 103.

Ruth was born on April 8. 1919, in Mahaska, KS, the youngest of 3 children, to Dr Victor J Wall and Mrs Nellie P (Peake) Wall. She attended the University of Kansas and graduated with a degree in Medical Technology. Upon graduation, she moved to Kansas City and went to work as a Lab Technician at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where she met the love of her life Walter L Bell. They married on June 30, 1959, and moved to Lawrence, KS, where Ruth was employed as a Lab Technician for Lawrence Memorial Hospital for a number of years until her retirement.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Walter, her parents, sister and brother. She is survived by nieces, nephews. cousins and friends.

Ruth was able to remain in her home until the age of 101, thanks, in part, to the loving care given to her by Lisa, Connie and Britney, and many other wonderful attendants from Keep Living at Home. She decided to move into Star Living and enjoyed her time there until she died.

Ruth had many pets during her life, so the family suggests memorials to the Douglas County Humane Society, Lawrence, KS, sent in care of Rumsey Yost Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1260 Lawrence, Kansas 66044.

 

Kimberly Anne (Murphy) Bohmann

On October 16th 1959, the world was made a brighter, better place with the birth of Kimberly Anne Bohmann (Murphy). That is the way the world will stay even after her passing on June 3rd, 2022.
Kim was born and raised in Lawrence KS with her mother, father, and sister where she attended local grade schools and, eventually, Lawrence High. Throughout her young life, Kim made numerous friends and bonds that would last her whole life. She began her adult life working as a hair stylist at Reflections Hair Salon where she continued to ingratiate herself into the lives of other Lawrencians.
After her children were born, she started working at the University of Kansas at the Watkins Health Clinic and eventually the Department of Theatre and Dance. There, she met hundreds of students and staffers with whom she made lasting impacts on their lives. She welcomed everyone into her life with a warm smile and without judgement. She never knew a stranger, and would welcome anyone to her home for thanksgiving dinner or for a wednesday night margarita.
The most shining tribute to Kims’ legacy are her children. A single mother for the majority of their lives, Kim instilled the virtue of giving, affection, and “love of life”. She unquestionably accepted the boys’ friends into her home almost daily. She gave her kids and their friends her time, her love, and all of the food in her pantry. She made everyday an adventure from camping in the backyard to letting the kids cook (even when they chose a whole fish with the eyes still on it!). Until her dying day her children knew that Kim loved them without conditions, or expectations. In turn, they have become the mirror of her character with unfailing kindness, and being the uncommon friend that Kim always was. They will carry on her memory with every bloody mary bar and “Hot Wings” barbeque.
Kim fought a brave battle with terminal breast cancer but still lived her life the way any one should be inspired to do.  She won her war and will live on in the lives of us who she made a lasting impact.
She is survived by her two sons Brett Bohmann and Blake (Katie) Bohmann, grandsons James and Henry Bohmann, mother Barbara Murphy (Wrench), sister Lisa (Jeff) Showalter (Murphy), and niece Sarah Showalter. She is preceded in death by her father Dallas Murphy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Clinton Lake Overlook Park Shelter #1 on Friday June 10th from 3-7pm. The party is considered an open house and all are welcome to attend at their leisure. Lets celebrate Kim the way she lived her life with food, beer, and great music. North 1402 Road, Lawrence KS 66047.

Norman Lee Myers, Sr.

Private family services are planned for Norman Lee Myers Sr., 54, Lawrence, who passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022, at his home.

Mr. Myers was born and raised in Topeka, KS. He moved to Lawrence KS in 2012. He passed away at his residence on May 19, 2022. Norman was a kind hearted individual who was highly skilled in all forms of carpentry work. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. The last years of his life he battled liver cancer but never failed to be there for his family. He will be missed by many and is survived by his four children Lynsi Hedges, Norman Myers jr., Sarah Conklin, Andrea Green and eight grandchildren, Brayden, Kynsleigh, Hunter, Kingstyn, Rylan, Emma, Emersyn, and little Hunter.

Dr. Paul Dean Wagner

Oral surgeon, great outdoorsman, devoted father, loving husband, loyal friend, and all-around really nice guy, Dr. Paul Dean Wagner (Wags) died peacefully surrounded by his immediate family in Lawrence, Kansas, June 1, after a long and brave battle with Parkinson’s. He leaves behind an enormous legacy and wonderful memories of adventure, leadership, friendship, general orneriness, and undeniable service to those around him.  He carried a quiet, caring demeanor, a surprising sense of humor, and a strong, adventurous spirit
Born Christmas Eve 1937 in Beloit, KS.  His parents, Oral and Mary, instilled a sense of honor, fairness, hard work, and devotion to his family at a young age. Early years included working on farms and at the family drugstores, school athletics, lifeguarding, and Boy Scouts of America, where he became an honored Eagle Scout. Here he developed an immense appreciation for the great outdoors, leadership, and physical fitness. He graduated in 1957 from Mankato High School. (KS)
Before graduating in 1961 from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy, he played drums in the KU Bands and Orchestra, worked as a physiology lab assistant, and was a member of Alpha Nu Chapter, Beta Theta Pi.  He also met and married the love of his life, Sharon, who happened to live next door.
Paul worked at Family Drug in Lincoln, Nebraska, witnessing the birth of two beautiful daughters, Anne and Mary Beth, and decided he would rather write prescriptions instead of filling them.  So, he moved his young family to Memphis, where he was able to work his way through the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry in 3 years, completing 4 quarters a year. He continued with a medical internship at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and residency at Hershey Medical Center and Harrisburg Hospital, finishing in 1972.  He soon became a diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
While living and practicing Oral Surgery in Hershey, he introduced his growing family to running, canoeing, back-packing, and hiking in beautiful Pennsylvania and neighboring states!  He served on the boards of the Pennsylvania Sierra Club, and the Appalachian Trail Conference, leading a group who saved Stony Creek Valley, and helped maintain hiking trails.  He ran the Harrisburg Marathon, the first of many to come, including Boston, National Capital of Canada and NYC.
In 1975 Kansas friends and family recruited the Wagners to come home. And, the Wagner pre-teen daughters agreed to leave their beloved Hershey for Kansas – if they could ski in Colorado and get a cat!  That being achievable, Paul returned to Kansas with his family and began his own OMS practice in Hays.  Appropriately on Labor Day, Paul Jr. (PJ) was welcomed to complete their family!  Soon Paul organized the Hays Area Road Runners, (HARR! HARR!) and a fun-loving group of running addicts developed.  A bicycling group followed. Suddenly, marathon, triathlon, and distance bicycling competition and recreational trips were in order, and great friendships were born!  He served in professional capacities there as well:  Chief of Staff of Hays Medical Center, State President of KS Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Society, President of the energetic Western KS Dental Study Club.

 

Dr. Wagner and his family loved to back pack and canoe in the Minnesota and Canadian Boundary Waters, and the Colorado Mountains.  They were able to ski in Colorado, Ride the Rockies, Bike Across Kansas, Tour Wyoming, and compete in numerous races and events!  Laughing, joking, loving, challenging, developing great friendships, creating special memories, all part of his persona, continued in his retirement.

In 2005, Paul retired from his OMS practice, and moved with Sharon to Arrowhead Mountain in the Vail Valley.  Here, the beautiful mountains were in his backyard, skiing was available every day the lifts were open.  Terrific friendships were established with like minded residents who loved the clean air, beautiful mountains, and the active lifestyle.  These friends were a special mix of different cultures, from many parts of our country.  Yet, all were still contributing to our world, working for Habitat of Humanity, Mountain Rescue, and in many other volunteering capacities.
Paul was married to Sharon Mather on July 17,1960 in Stafford, Kansas. Sharon survives him and resides in Lawrence. Other survivors are his children:  Anne Wagner Dewitz, of Olathe, KS, Mary Beth (Gregg) Minion of Glenwood Springs, CO. and Paul Dean (Elizabeth Curry) Wagner, Jr. of West Hollywood, CA. and his grandchildren:  Kyle Dewitz of Nashville, TN, Alec (Tom Bethany) Hynes of New York, NY,  Casey Hynes-(Nathan) Seaford of Solvang, CA, and Elissa Dewitz of North Hollywood, CA. and his great granddaughter, Roo Elliot Seaford of Solvang, CA.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents Oral Harlan Wagner and Mary Amis Wagner of Mankato KS and his brother Sam Wagner of Smith Center, Kansas.
A member of the Unitarian Church of Memphis and Harrisburg, Paul lived a life honoring diversity, tolerance, and service to others. Because he requested cremation, a celebration of life event will take place in Lawrence in the fall of 2022.

Tanya Marie Guy

Memorial services for Tanya Marie Guy, 64, Lawrence, will be at 10 am Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory, with the Rev. William Dulin officiating. Ms. Guy passed away May 7, 2022, at her home.

She was born June 8, 1957, in Seattle, Washington, the daughter of Edward C. and Bette Jean Simpson Guy. She was a homemaker.

Tanya leaves to mourn her passing a daughter, Danya Erin Guy, Olathe; three siblings, her twin sister Shelly Marie Vann, Eric Charles Guy, and Adrienne Halle Guy; nieces Tiffany Erin Morris, and Denise T. Vann-Foster (Steven); nephews Gregory Lee Morris, Justin Edward Guy, and Joshua Thomas Guy; and great nephews Davon A. Foster, Jaxon A. Foster, and Aiden J. Foster. She raised two kids – Anthony Vann and Danya Guy. Surviving grandchildren are Damar McKinney, Landon Burkes, and A’Salynn Burkes.

Chad Jeffrey “The Chad” Gunderson

Memorial services for Chad Jeffrey Gunderson, 47, Lawrence, will be 4 pm, Friday, June 3, 2022, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. A visitation will be from 6-7 pm, Thursday, June 2, 2022.

Chad died May 28, 2022, at his home, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

The Chad was born on June 12, 1974 in Dodge City, Kansas. He moved to Lawrence in 1979. He attended Broken Arrow, Deerfield, West Jr. High and Lawrence High School. After high school Chad joined the Army National Guard and finished his education with a bachelor’s degree in business from Washburn University in May of 2000. Chad later served with the Airforce Reserves Fire Protection Unit and volunteered in 2008 for a tour in Kuwait.

On May 30, 1998 Chad married Candy Ann Johnson in the South Park gazebo. On November 6th, 2001 their daughter, Payton Brooke Gunderson, joined the couple and made them a family of three. They survive of the home.

2001 was also the year Chad joined the recruiting class for Lawrence Douglas County Fire and Medical. His 19-year career concluded when he took a medical retirement in January of 2021.

Others survivors include mother Carol Armstrong of Lawrence, mother in law Phuong Johnson of Lawrence, sister Erica Gunderson of San Antonio, brother Michael Gunderson of Chicago, in law’s Jeff & Holly Johnson of Olathe, Jimmy & Diana Johnson of Lawrence. Nieces and Nephews: Kaleb Martin of San Antonio, Kate Martin of Austin, Caden, Conner and Kendall Johnson of Lawrence; Bristol and Elin Johnson of Olathe and Eva Gunderson of Chicago.

Following the Services on Friday, the family would like to invite everyone to join them to celebrate The Chad at Johnny’s North Upstairs.
