Emil Junior Trybom

Funeral service for Emil J Trybom 80, Lawrence, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2016 at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church, 802 W. 22nd. Terr. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Emil passed away April 19, 2016 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 1, 1935 in Belleville, Kansas, the son of Emil Nathaniel and Anna McCollum Trybom.

Emil served his country in the USArmy from 1958-1960 in Fort Lewis, WA.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Clifton, KS where he accepted the Lord at and was baptized at the age of 10. He was a Boiler Operator at KU for 36 years and a parts man at Pippert’s Automotive during that same time. Prior to this he worked at Stokley-Van Camp’s in Lawrence, and the Box Factory.

He married Charlotte Nightingale on June 10, 1962. To this union came Emil Allen Trybom, Mona Kay Trybom, and Rhonda Helm. Charlotte preceded him in death November 9, 1972. He married Jeanette (Jan) (Stoebener) Kuester on July 26, 1974, she survives of the home. He is also survived by a step-son, Jim Kuester. He is also survived by eight grand-children and ten great grand children, and two step-grandchildren.

Survivors include four sisters: Gladys Simoneau, Plainview, Texas; Betty Beydler, Spokane, WA; Esther Lahodny, Concordia, KS; and his twin sister, Emily “June” and husband LaVern, of Smith Center, KS. He was preceded in death by siblings Ed, Marvin, Carl, Marie, and Martha. He is also survived by a brother in law, Bob Stoebener and wife, Artis, of Cameron, MO.

Visitation will be held at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home from 6-7:00 on Thursday evening, April 21 in Lawrence.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

Leo Keller Smith

A memorial visitation for Leo Keller Smith, 92, Lawrence, will be from 6-7 pm Wednesday, Apr. 20th at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Private interment has taken place at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Smith died Monday, Apr. 18, 2016, at his home.

He was born Jan. 4, 1924, in Lawrence, the son of Dan and Anna May Keller Smith. He graduated from McLouth High School. He served in the United States Army Air Force, 5th Air Force, 60th Air Depot Group, during World War II. He later returned to Lawrence, and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in education, where he was involved in KU ROTC, and helped construct the Campanile, and was one of the first graduates to walk through it. Leo was a purchasing agent at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, and later for Callery Chemical Company. He was a longtime area farmer and cattle rancher. He was a member of the Perry American Legion, and enjoyed pheasant hunting and KU sports.

Leo married Margo L. Pierce on Aug. 29, 1948, at Danforth Chapel on the KU campus, one of the first couples to be married there. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Bobbi Reichart and husband Neill, Alma, Kan., and David A. Smith and wife Ramona Willits, Lawrence; four grandchildren, Amy Guinn McKinsey, Jason Guinn (Laura), Ross Smith (Kim), and Jamie Parrish (Daniel); and ten great grandchildren, Anna and Keller Smith, and Alexis, Baylee, Braden, Makayla, Nataleigh, Kadence, Issie, and Harmony.

Wilfred D. ‘Willie’ Hadl

A Celebration of Life for Wilfred D. ‘Willie’ Hadl, 77, Lawrence, will be at 2 pm Saturday at Centenary United Methodist Church, with Pastor Dan Norwood officiating. A visitation will follow the service at the church. Willie died Monday, Apr. 18, 2016, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.

He was born Oct. 22, 1938, in Lawrence, the son of Paul Henry and E. Pearl Smoots Hadl. He attended a one-room grade school in Eudora, and graduated from Eudora High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1959-63, aboard the USS Kearsarge. His unit assisted in the recovery of the Apollo space module after splashdown with Astronaut Wally Schirra aboard. Willie was a maintenance electrician for Westar Energy, and retired in 1995 after 32 years of service. He was active in Boy Scouts troop 59 and the Kanwaka 4H club, where he served as the electricity project lead. He was the first president of the Eudora 4H club. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, and the Westar Energy Retirees Board. He enjoyed geography and American history, and helped write the Hadl family ancestry.

Willie married Connie Tevis on Sept. 5, 1964, in Topeka. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Darren D. Hadl, Lawrence, and Cory C. Hadl, Colorado. He was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Jane Hadl.

Ruihua Peng

Services for Ruihua Peng, 60, Lawrence, will be 10 am Monday, April 18, 2016, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

She died Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at her home.

Alvin Eugene Reiff

REIFF_ALVINGraveside services for Alvin E. Reiff, 76, Lawrence, KS, will be at 10:00 am, Thursday April 21, 2016, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence, KS, with Dave Upchurch of Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church officiating.

Al died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at home. He was born October 18, 1939, in Kewanee, IL, the son of Lloyd and Marjorie (Stone) Reiff. After attending Kewanee High School, he served in the US Army at Fort Sheridan from 1957-60. During a weekend leave, he met Jean Lundahl of Silvis, IL, at a roller skating rink, and they married September 23, 1961.

While raising his family in Cambridge, IL, Al worked as a journeyman pipefitter for the Rock Island Line Railroad in Silvis, IL for 19 years until the railroad closed, and then for four years in the maintenance department of Kewanee Public Hospital. In 1988 he moved to Florida where he was employed as a telecommunications specialist at Walt Disney World for 11 years. After he retired in 2001, he lived in Las Cruces, NM, Branson, MO, Moline, IL, and Lawrence, KS.

Al had a strong Christian faith, enjoyed southern gospel music, and loved to share his time and great sense of humor with his friends and family. He held an FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License and could fix almost anything–electronics, computers and cars.

Survivors include his wife Jean, Lawrence, KS; sons David (Sharron) Reiff, Prescott Valley, AZ, and Daniel (Mary Jo) Reiff, Lawrence, KS; daughters Debra (Christopher) Landt, Las Cruces, NM, and Diane Reiff, Kansas City, MO. Other survivors include his brother, Donald (Carol) Reiff, Kewanee, IL, and sister, Clarice (Pete) Mallery, Kewanee, IL; grandchildren Talia Harris, Ian (Zoe) Ginn, Melanie Landt, Bevan Landt, Megan Cage; and great-granddaughter Trinity Harris.

Joycelyn Clark

Graveside services for Joycelyn Clark, 89, Overland Park, will be 1 p.m., Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery, with the Reverend Leo Barbee officiating.

Mrs. Clark died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

She was born January 10, 1927, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Gayland and Anna Roberts Anderson. She attended Liberty Memorial High School and then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Mrs. Clark worked as a registered nurse. She enjoyed fishing, reading, working jigsaw puzzles, traveling and attending church.

She was married to Walter Woods and Alonzo Clark, both of whom preceded her in death.

Survivors include sisters, Martha Stafford of Virginia Beach, VA, Marjorie Jardan of Overland Park, KS, and Gladys Hankins of Cincinnati, OH; cousins, Norma Jean Moore, Meta Wells, Chudney Jamerson, James Jamerson, Naren Moore, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

Robert M. ‘Cheeko’ Cheek

A memorial visitation for Robert ‘Cheeko’ Cheek, 74, Lawrence, will take place from 11 am to 12:30 pm Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Cheeko died Friday, April 15, 2016, at Medicalodges Eudora.

He was born Feb. 27, 1942, in Lawrence, the son of Jack VW and Margaret Lorene Dicker Cheek. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1960, and later served in the United States Air Force. He retired from a career in sales.

Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne Cheek Brazzell, Franklin, Tenn.; two sisters, Darlene Cheek Harrell, Lawrence, and Barbara Cheek Reynolds and husband Michael, Lawrence; two grandchildren, two nieces, a nephew, and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Rob Harrell.

Daniel Wyatt Torneden

Memorial services for Daniel Wyatt Torneden, 73, Lawrence, will be 2 pm Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

He died Monday April 11, 2016, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.

Daniel was born December 23, 1942, in Easton, Kansas, the son of Ernest Edward and Dorothy Geraldine Cline Torneden. Daniel worked for many years as a newspaper carrier.

He enjoyed playing bingo, going on casino runs, and running errands for friends.

Survivors include a sister Dora Bussart, Oskaloosa; nieces Shanda Torneden and Tammie Torneden-White and husband Fred, Lawrence, Julie Smith, Oskaloosa; sister in law Verna Torneden, Lawrence, several great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and one niece

Sara Ruth Davenport

Graveside inurnment for Sara Ruth Bouton Wilson Davenport, 92, will be at 1 pm Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 pm Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory.

She passed away peacefully on April 9th, at home with her family by her side. The world is a better place because of the almost 93 years she lived on it. Those of us who were fortunate enough to have her influence on our lives are better because of the experience.

Mrs. Davenport was born April 16, 1923, in Richland, Kan., the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth Lamb Bouton. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1940.
She married Francis Wilson on January 19, 1941 in Lawrence. He died January 23,1973. She married Wayne Davenport on April 9, 1976, in Lawrence, and he preceded her in death on March 12, 2014.

Survivors include one daughter Sharon Miller, Lawrence; one son Steven Wilson and wife Marcia, Perry; one stepdaughter-in-law Linda Comstock, Knob Noster, MO; three grandchildren Elisa Edgar Loving Kay, Shannon Heston, and Haley Winfrey; 6 great grandchildren, Braxton Loving, Jessica Kay, Barrett and Harper Heston, Kennedy and Harrison Winfrey, four step-grandchildren, Dwayne Comstock, Kyle Twogood, Jill Christian and Kim Twogood and 8 step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Peavler, Topeka, and Lois Helm (Lee), Lawrence, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Darrell and Edwin Bouton, son-in-law Frank Miller, stepdaughter, Jane Twogood and stepson Philip Comstock.
She was a homemaker, babysitter, gardener, camper, seamstress and wonderful cook. She loved crocheting, doing crafts, playing cards and games with friends and family, attending grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities, Jayhawk basketball and most of all, her family.

Dorothy Maxine “Mickey” Lingenfelser

Graveside services for Dorothy Maxine “Mickey” Lingenfelser, 85, Tonganoxie, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Maceo Gray officiating.

Ms. Lingenfelser died Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Tonganoxie Nursing & Rehab.

She was born September 24, 1930, in Lawrence, the daughter of Delbert Merle and Nellie Irene Church Beers.

Ms. Lingenfelser was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing bingo, gardening, working on word puzzles, and collecting cows.

She is survived by four children, Gloria Jean Curtis of Kansas City, MO, Charles Richard Lingenfelser and wife Joy of Grandview, MO, John Howard Lingenfelser and wife Tracy of Lawrence, and Dorothy Anne Niver and husband James of Baldwin City, KS; a sister, Margie Hummelgaard of Tonganoxie, KS; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
