Sandra Sue Hayes Behymer
A Celebration of Life Service for Sandra Sue Behymer, 65, Lawrence, will be 6 to 8 PM, Friday, February 8, 2013 at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory. Cremation will take place following the service.
Mrs. Behymer passed away Tuesday, February 05, 2013 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born November 24, 1947 in Iuka, Arkansas to Joseph R. and Helen Leona Stewart Hayes. She worked as a custodial at KU as well as a babysitter to many children, who lovingly referred to her as “Aunt Sandy”.
She married Fred Behymer in 1996. He died January 15, 2010.
Sandy enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching western movies, traveling, camping, and watching children. She was also a member of the Cherokee Nation.
Survivors include stepsons, Mark Behymer of Tonganoxie, KS, and Fred Behymer of Thornton, CO; stepdaughters, Donna Bartkoski and husband David of Tonganoxie, KS, and Cheryl Bryant and husband Tom of Ottawa, KS; brothers, Charles R. Hayes and wife Mae of Topeka, KS, and Daniel L. Hayes and wife Gayle of Lawrence, KS; sisters, Lillie L. Beck and husband Ronald of Ft. Smith, TX, Marcella K. Gorden and husband Bob of Perry, KS, Beverly J. Hayes of Sulphur Springs, AR, and Nancy J. Roberson and husband Dick of Ozawkie, KS; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, George E. “Pud” Hayes in Vietnam.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 1260, Lawrence, KS 66044.
Sandy had a capacity of love that was boundless.
Bill Edward Garrett
Services for Bill Garrett, 86, will be at 2 PM Thursday, Feb 7, 2013 at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Bill died Feb. 2, 2013 in Overbrook.
Mr. Garrett was born Nov. 25, 1926 to Edward Earl and Nancy Ann Grammer Garrett in Lawrence. He attended Oak Ridge school in Grant Township and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School.
Mr. Garrett served in the United States Navy during WW II. He owned and operated Garrett’s Market for over 50 years. He was also President of Garrett & Son, Inc. Mr. Garrett build and started the Lawrence Tennis Club at Alvamar. He was a member of Centenary Methodist Church, American Legion Post #14, and Eagles FOE #309 all in Lawrence.
He married Barbara Hoskinson on Oct. 13, 1950. She died Aug. 13, 1982. He married Patti Rathbun Glenn on Sept. 3, 1983. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Michael Garrett; daughter Michele Simpson (Maurice); grandson, Kevin Horch, one sister, Blanche Timmerberg; step-sons, Charles, Gary & Tony Glenn; step-daughters, Barbara Glenn, Kathleen Steele (Bob), & Deborah Carrier (Andrew); step grandchildren, Charles Jr., David, Travis & Jessica, Shelly Glenn, Mark & Russell Lavin; step great-grandchildren, Skylar, Andrew, Kailea, Darion, Aron, Makayla, Erika, Austin, Bradly,Sabrina, Michael & Clarence.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Barbara; twin sister, Betty Ann; sister, Thelma Erline; and daughters, Kathy Garrett and Andrea Horch.
After retiring, Bill enjoyed traveling, and selling his produce at the Lawrence Farmers Market. He was a member of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee for several years and actively participated in the parades. In 2009 he was the Grand Marshal.
Bill & Patti have resided at Brookside Retirement Community in Assisted Living for ten months, Bill at the Brookside Manor the last month. Our heartfelt thanks to the entire Brookside Staff for their excellent and loving care.
Friends may call from 8 AM to 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 4 PM to 6 PM.

Albert ‘Al’ Brynds Sr.
Funeral services for Albert ‘Al’ Brynds Sr., 74, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lawrence Heights Christian Church, with the Rev. Bill Wealthall officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Brynds died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 5, 1938, in West Mineral, Kan., the son of William James and Lavana Pearl Deckard Brynds. He grew up in Cherokee, Kan., and graduated from Crawford Community High School in 1957. He later attended four years of trade school for sheet metal workers union local #2. He worked for Norris Brothers for 22 years, and later worked for the University of Kansas. He was past president of Eudora Little League. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He was a member of Lawrence Heights Christian Church.
He married Violet Nadine Pickel on Mar. 15, 1958, in Miami, Okla. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three sons, William Allan Brynds, Earl Wayne Brynds and wife Adrianne, and Albert Brynds Jr., all of Lawrence; a daughter, Vicki Sue Hegeman and husband Mike, Lawrence; two brothers, Ted Brynds Sr. and wife Arelva, and Bill Brynds, all of Cherokee; seven grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.

Frederick Lee Viebrock
Funeral services for Frederick Lee Viebrock, 90, Lawrence will be 2 pm. Friday, February 8, at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Reverend Matthew Sturtevant will officiate.
Mr. Viebrock died Sat., Feb. 2, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born June 10, 1922 in Sedalia, MO, the son of Louis Frederick and Ella Louise Oelrichs Viebrock.
Mr. Viebrock was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran serving from 1942 to 1946. He attended the University of Missouri for 2 years.
He worked for Sunshine Biscuits Inc. for 31 years, living in several cities including Clinton, & Sedalia, MO, Leavenworth, and Lawrence for the past 48 years.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church.
Mr. Viebrock married Shirley A. Parks on Nov. 26, 1950 in Calhoun MO. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and a great-grandson Connor.
Survivors include sons Mike and wife Diane of Tulsa, David and wife Connie of Overland Park, Paul and wife Anna of Austin; daughter Julianne and partner Kathy of Lawrence; sister Kathryn Pahlow of Sedalia; grandchildren Lisa and husband Justin, Andrew and wife Kayla, Matthew and fiancee Lindsey, Blake and wife M.C., Dustin and wife Sarah, and Dima; and great-grandchildren Jackson and Noah.
Mr. Viebrock will be in state from 9am. to 8pm. Thursday where the family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 pm. at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

Richard L. ‘Dick’ Farran
A Celebration of Life for Dick Farran, 70, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory. Private inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Farran died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at his home.
He was born June 18, 1942, in Parsons, Kan., the son of Charles W. and Edith L. Guy Farran. He attended schools in Parsons. Dick was a cement finisher in the construction industry, and later retired from Hy-Vee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his two Chihuahuas, Chigger and Sammy.
He married Betty Lou Rhoades on Apr. 21, 1961, in Parsons. She preceded him in death on Jan. 10, 2008. Survivors include four daughters, Kim Springer, Lawrence, Shara Basel and husband Rodney, Eudora, Kyra Flummerfelt, Lawrence, and Kellie Farran-Greenwood and husband Tim, Lawrence; a brother, Chuck Farran and wife Sonya, Miami, Okla.; three sisters, Janet Cloke, Baxter Springs, Kan., Charlotte Merrill, Parsons, and Judy Corey, Kansas City; ten grandchildren, Lynly Craig, Morgan Hoss, Michael Braden, Allison Cabay, Brian Braden, Robyn Flummerfelt, Cole and Gavin Greenwood, Zaxary Flaherty, and Preston Greenwood; and seven great grandchildren.

Penelope (Penny) Ely Eckler
Penelope (Penny) Ely Eckler, passed away on January 31st, 2013, in the company of her family. Penny was born in Rochester, New York to Margaret Wright Ely and Glen Ely on May 17th, 1942. She graduated Webster High School in 1960, and married Gerald Schneider in the same year, but then later divorced. She reconnected and married her childhood sweetheart, Louis James (Jim) Eckler in 1974, and they eventually made Lawrence, KS their home. Jim survives of the home.
Penny was active with her church in Rochester, New York, as well as volunteering with her local schools as a homemaker and mother. She later finished her career with Hallmark Cards in Lawrence, KS.
Penny is also survived by her children Theresa (Teri) Schneider Nachreiner, Cheri Schneider Corpening (James), and Rachel Schneider as well as a brother, William Fletcher. Her grandchildren are: Shane Shogrin, Kacey Corpening, Karah Corpening, Amanda Nachreiner and Robert (Bobby) Nachreiner, with two great grand-children Camille Shogrin and Elliana Bonzo.
Penny requested there be no services. The family would like any tributes to be donated to the Lawrence Humane Society, or to perform a random act of kindness on her behalf.
Steven Michael “Mike” Wantland
Memorial services for Steven “Mike” Wantland, 62, Lawrence, will be 4pm to 6pm, Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Smith Center on the campus of Brandon Woods at Alvamar.
Mr. Wantland passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, with his family at his side, after a short fight with lung cancer.
He was born August 12, 1950 in Monett, MO to William Joseph and Helen Lucille Shaffer Wantland.
Mike enjoyed fishing, spending time at the lake with his dogs, and being outdoors. He also enjoyed the 15 years he spent at Brandon Woods at Alvamar getting to know the residents and his co-workers.
He married Linda Kunkle February 4, 2006 in Lawrence. She survives of the home with their faithful dogs Shelby and Buster.
Other survivors include a son, Adam Wantland of Neveda City, CA; sister Phyllis Martin and brother in law Jeff of Lawrence, KS; step sons, Brian, David, and James; grandson, Sirius Wantland of Neveda City, CA; nieces, Kathryn Kimbrell of Irving, TX and Tonia Day of Oklahoma City, OK.

Sharon Kay Wadhwa
Funeral services for Sharon Kay Wadhwa, 58, Lawrence will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints, 3655 W. 10th St., Lawrence, KS 66049.
Mrs. Wadhwa died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at her home.
She was born February 25, 1954 in Lawrence, the daughter of Harold Jefferson and Betty Lou Lee Cannon. She graduated from Lawrence High School and has lived in the community her whole life.
She worked for and retired from Wal-Mart, where she worked as a greeter for 13 years. She enjoyed puzzle books, playing Skip-Bo, and watching her granddaughter grow. She also attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints.
She married Duane Allen Robinson in 1985, he died in 1998.
She is survived by two sons, Clinton Edwards and wife Tralissa of Lawrence, William Jack Cannon of Lawrence; brothers, Harold Jefferson Cannon, Jr. of Baldwin City, Tom Cannon; sister, Billie Arlene Brohard of Lawrence; and granddaughter, Alizia LeAnn Edwards of Lawrence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Guy Raymond Edwards, Jr., a brother, Paul David Lee, and a sister, Dorothy Cannon.
Friends may call from noon to 8p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Duane Raymond Lathrop
Funeral services for Duane Raymond Lathrop, 36, Lawrence, will be 10 a.m. Monday, January 28, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
He died January 23, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Lathrop was born May 14, 1976 in Kenosha, WI, the son of Raymond Francis and Joanne Catherine Hess Lathrop.
He graduated from high school in Wisconsin. Duane worked as a Die Cut Operator in the packaging industry. He has been a resident of the area for 10 years.
Duane enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, being outdoors, spending time with family, and riding motorcycles. He also was a huge Green Bay Packers Fan.
Survivors include his fiancé, Brenda Tipton and her three children, George, Matt, and Shania, all of Lawrence; father, Raymond Lathrop; brother Dan Lathrop and wife Lisa; sister, Donna Trimmer and husband Wayne; nephew, James Lathrop; and nieces Alexis and Mackenzie Trimmer, all of Kenosha, WI.
Duane was preceded in death by his mother, Joanne Lathrop.
A visitation with the family will be Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
