Ralph Eugene Boylan

Graveside services for Ralph Eugene Boylan, 80, will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2013, at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Boylan died Thursday, October 10, 2013 in Wichita surrounded by his family. He was born November 10, 1932, in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Born to the son of Calvin Nathaniel Boylan and Grace Evelyn (Gager) Boylan. Calvin died when Ralph was a young boy. Grace was blessed to remarry Clarence Alton Ramey who raised Ralph as his own son.

He attended High School in Iowa Falls then served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1953. Ralph moved to Lawrence in 1966. He worked as a printer at Lawrence Journal World until his retirement.

Survivors include a daughter Darla Rawley, Rockford, IL; from his first wife Dee, a Son, Calvin Boylan, Lawrence; daughters, Lynne Boylan, Cranston, RI; Karla Boylan, Whitewater, KS; Sharon Rayton (and husband Billy) Wichita; Pamela Kendrick, Nevada, MO; all with his wife Patricia, stepchildren, Linda Goff (& husband Butch), Perry; Ruth Vermillion and Kenneth Hess, with wife Jean, 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 4 step grandchildren. Other survivors include one brother, Robert Ramey of Laughlin, NV; four sisters, Patricia Donnley and husband Bob of Hidden Valley Lake, CA; Darlene Libro of Sparks, NV; Marlene Achtermann and husband Vern of Lakewood, CO; and Jolene Rush and husband Dan of Iowa Fall, IA.

Friends may call from noon – 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the University of Kansas Cancer Center in care of the funeral home.

Sukwah Leung

Funeral services for Sukwah Leung, 94, Lawrence, will be 10am Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Leung died Sunday, October 6, 2013 in Lawrence.

A visitation with the family will be from 5pm to 7pm Friday, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

Verna Faye ‘Rusty’ Tryon

Graveside memorial services for Verna Faye ‘Rusty’ Tryon, 87, Lawrence, will be at 3 pm Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Tryon died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at her home.

She was born May 6, 1926, in Lawrence, the daughter of David and Emma Felt Pugh. She attended Model School in rural Douglas County. Rusty worked in food services at Central Jr. High School for several years. She enjoyed crocheting, word search puzzles, gardening, and spending time with family. Rusty married Paulen E, Tryon on Nov. 20, 1945. He preceded her in death, as did her parents, several siblings, and a son, Nick.

Survivors include a son, Tom Tryon, Lawrence; two daughters, Audrey Richeson and husband Bill, Baldwin City, and Twila Tryon, Shawnee Mission; a brother, Sam Pugh and wife Margaret, Ruidoso, New Mex.; a sister, Barbara Neel and husband Perry, Bethany, Okla.; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Joe Bryce Stroup

Joe Bryce Stroup, 83, Lawrence died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor. A private family inurnment service is planned.

He was born Jan. 6, 1930, in Deer Creek, Okla., the son of Theodore T. and Nella Jo Crow Stroup. He graduated from Iola High School, and later from the University of Kansas. Joe served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Afterward, he joined Sun World Graphics in Kansas City. He graduated with a MFA from the University of Kansas in 1954.

In the mid 50’s, Joe joined the building/developing firm of Moore and Associates in Lawrence. Later, Joe started his own real estate, building, and property management businesses. Over the years, his companies developed several neighborhoods and constructed family homes and apartment complexes. In addition, he and his wife developed Apple Valley Farm at Lake Perry. Joe was known for his work ethic and creativity.

He married Kala Mays on May 28, 1960, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Chandler Stroup and wife Kimberly, Lawrence; a daughter, Megan Sappington, Jefferson City, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Sandra Kay Verrill

Sandra Kay Verrill, 71, Lawrence, KS, passed away Friday, October 4, 2013 at her home.

She was born December 9, 1941, in Lewiston, Maine to Randall Burtis and Verna Campbell Verrill.

Ms. Verrill has lived in Lawrence, KS for the last 3 years, moving from Westbrook, Maine.

She was a homemaker, and was very funny, intelligent, generous to a fault, out going, and easy to talk to.

Ms. Verrill loved baking, drawing and painting, reading, interior design, history, architecture, flowers, and her pets , Sheba and Tigger who preceded her in death, as well as Bobo and Pumpkin who survive her.

She is survived by a son, Scott Burtis Rowe of Lawrence; and a daughter, Kara Ann Rowe of Gray, Maine.

Ms. Verrill was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kevin Murray Rowe; and a sister, Katherine Steves.

Harold J. Bunce

Services for Harold Jay Bunce, 77, Perry, will be private.

Mr. Bunce died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at his home.

He was born April 28, 1936 in Lawrence, the son of Ralph and Fern Avey Bunce. He attended school in McLouth.

Mr. Bunce served in the United States Navy and was an over the road truck driver, retiring in 1976. He attended Cross Roads Cowboy Church in Williamstown. He enjoyed fishing, camping, wood carving, tinkering, and going for a ride in the car.

He is survived by sons, Chester A. Bunce and wife Treva of Perry, David T. May and wife Abie of Oskaloosa; daughters, Mary Sue Sledd and husband Gregg of Lecompton, Amy Wellman and husband Ron of Eudora, and Becky Bunce of Lawrence; brother, Bill Bunce and wife Betty of Linwood; grandchildren, Jeffery DeJaynes, Patrick DeJaynes, Raymond Max Baumgart III, Brad Sledd, Justin Wellman, CJ Bunce, Austin Sledd, Quinten Sledd, Colton Bunce; and great grandchildren, Damion, Kiera, and Clifton.

Daren Jerome Walker

A visitation for Daren Jerome Walker, 46, Lenexa, will be 6-8 pm Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. He passed away October 1, 2013.

He was born in Lawrence, KS, where he graduated from Lawrence High School, and was a resident of Johnson County for many years. His hobbies included restoring old furniture and tinkering with old cars.

Survivors include his father, Clarence David and wife Theresa Ann Walker, Lenexa, KS; his mother, Joyce Jessie and husband Ronald Lawrence Potter, Kansas City MO; two brothers, David Eugene Walker, Lawrence, KS, and Deron Potter, Kansas City, KS; a sister Starla Potter, Kansas City, KS; three children, Rashai Courcncy Plymber, Lawrence, and Bria and Darrien Walker, Kansas City, Kansas; and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

His brother, Wayne Anthony Walker, preceded him in death.

Torben Klarlund

Memorial services for Torben Klarlund, 71, Lawrence, will be 3 pm, Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory.

Mr. Klarlund died Monday, September 30, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City.

He was born December 12, 1941, in Copenhagen, Denmark, to Knud Borge and Ebba Petersen Klarlund. He received schooling in Denmark and earned a degree in civil engineering. He moved from Denmark to Nova Scotia, Canada and then immigrated to the United States in 1970.

Mr. Klarlund worked as a civil engineer, volunteer fireman, and most recently as a supervisor for Reynolds Metal in Kansas City, MO. He enjoyed building things, working on old cars, and visiting Denmark whenever he could. He was a people person, patient, and could fix anything.

He married Jytte Irene Grumlose, July 11, 1964 in Nova Scotia, Canada. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Susan Theroff and husband David, of Berryton, KS; a son, Peter Klarlund and wife Desseray, of Liberty, MO; and grandchildren, Torben, Taylor, and Birgitte.

Torben was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Erik Klarlund; and sister, Eva Albeck.

Torben had a larger than life personality. He believed everyone deserved a second chance and helping hand. A living example of do unto others as you would have done unto you. Torben treated everyone he met as his friend.

Darrel E. Easum

A memorial visitation for Darrel E. Easum, 80, Lawrence, will be Friday from 6-7:30 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory. Darrel died Tue., Oct. 1, 2013, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.

He was born Sept. 4, 1933, in Toronto, Kan., the son of Allan C. and Hildred B. Carlisle Easum. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School, and later served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Darrel worked as a union carpenter for 42 years, mostly for B.A. Green Construction and Harris Construction, and retired in 2000. He enjoyed sports, KU football and basketball, Royals baseball and Chiefs football. He coached baseball for 20 years, in the South Park, Broken Arrow, and Holcom leagues. He coached many great players, including all three of his sons. He enjoyed playing golf, and served as a marshal at Alvamar for several years. He loved his pets, raised ponies for several years, and enjoyed the companionship of his cat, Amber. Darrel was also fondly known as ‘Coot’ and ‘Cotter’ by friends, family, and coworkers.

He married Shirley Ann Stevens on Nov. 6, 1953, in Lawrence. She preceded him in death, as did four brothers, Chuck, Norman, Cloyce, and Roy, and two sisters, Donna and Eva. Survivors include three sons, John Easum and wife Debbie, New Carlisle, Ind., Andy Easum, and Doug Easum, both of Lawrence; a brother, Allan Easum, Lawrence; a sister, Nelda Hodson, Lawrence; and four grandchildren, Adam, Kara, Doug Jr., and John.

Shelly Lynn Beilman

Memorial services for Shelly Lynn Beilman, 64, Edwardsville, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Tonganoxie Christian Church.

Mrs. Beilman died Monday, September 30, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born November 5, 1948 in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of Aurie L and Carol Grace Renn Freeman. She graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1966 and later earned an associate’s degree.

Mrs. Beilman was a secretary for Hartford Insurance Company. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren, going to the casino, shopping, gardening, visiting her home in Las Vegas, and playing Scrabble and Sudoku .

She married Donald F. Beilman March 31, 1986 in Lenexa, Kansas. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include children, Roxanne Keller and husband Justin of Tonganoxie, Stacey Glidewell of Kansas City, Kansas; stepchildren, Lucy Harrity of Shawnee, Steve Beilman and wife Sunday of Edwardsville, Eric Beilman of Edwardsville; siblings, Terry Freeman of Tonganoxie, Sharon Daniel of Tonganoxie; grandchildren, DJ Harrity, Nic Beilman, Sanoma Hillebert, Wyatt Zarda, Seth Reliford, Marissa Vaughn, Dax Keller; and great grandchild, Gage Owens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Larry Freeman; and grandson, Caleb Garrison.
