Ryan Matthew Romero

A Celebration of Life for Ryan Matthew Romero, 39, of Oskaloosa, will be Sunday April 24, at 2 p.m. at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

Ryan went to be with the Angels on April 18th at Heritage Gardens Assisted Living with his family by his side.

He was born August 6, 1982, in Lawrence, Kansas.

He graduated from Lawrence Free State High School and from there he went to Flint Hills Job Corps, where he learned his carpentry and framework that he did. Ryan at times held 3 jobs down until M.S. took his ability to work.

Ryan loved doing puzzles, fishing, looking through change for old and unique ones. He had mastered writing calligraphy and using the Old English Style and was amazing at this. But his true passion, pride and joy was his daughter. Oh how he lit up when Anna was with him. They had a standing Friday night dinner date at Applebee’s. They were truly a wonderful father-daughter duo.

He is survived by his daughter Anna of Quenemo, as well as his mother and father, Rebecca and Dale James, and father and mother, Mark & Lori Romero. Ryan was blessed with five brothers and four sisters, Mark Jr. (Amber) of Richmond, Angela (Kasey) Keck of Raytown, Joshua, Frankie, Samantha Nicolas Manny (Victoria) all of Lawrence, Laken James of Lawrence and Kristina James of Reichelscheim, Germany. 24 nieces and nephews and one great nephew, and his maternal grandparents, Issie, Corinna Bermudez & paternal grandma Lazara Romero all of Lawrence.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandpa, Frank Romero, his aunt Marylou Pierce and cousin Alicia Chavez.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Anna Romero Educational Fund, or Heritage Gardens Assisted Living of Oskaloosa.

Arlene M. Edmonds

Arlene Edmonds, 94, passed away peacefully, Friday, April 15, 2022.

Ms. Edmonds was born July 7, 1927 the daughter of Raymond (Pete) and Bonnie (Miller) Ready in Winchester Kansas. Graduated Winchester High School in 1945. She married Harold V. Edmonds, April 5, 1947 in Oskaloosa, KS.

Arlene participated in the operation of the family business, Harold Edmonds Construction Co. and later the Edmonds Mini Storage both in Lawrence. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, working in the yard and loved watching KU basketball.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and only sibling, Audene Ready. She leaves behind one child, Rick and wife Glenna (Guenther) Edmonds of Lawrence; two grandchildren, Tiffany Edmonds, Brent and wife Larissa (Johnson) Edmonds; three great-granddaughters, Tayor Moldenhauer, Regan and Lilly Edmonds.

Service will be graveside by immediate family at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Visiting Nurses Association – Lawrence, KS, sent in care of the funeral home.

 

Thomas Riley ‘Sonny’ Dolan Jr.

Graveside services for Thomas Riley ‘Sonny’ Dolan Jr., 75, Lawrence, will be 11 am,  Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Memorial Park Cemetery.  A visitation will be from 6-7 pm, Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

Thomas “Sonny” Riley Dolan Jr, 75 passed away April 9 2022 in Lawrence Kansas.

Sonny was born on February 24, 1947, to Thomas R. and Delores A. Dolan in Lawrence Kansas. While in high school, Sonny enjoyed participating in gymnastics. He also worked for the Lawrence Journal World inserting ads into the newspaper. After graduating from Lawrence High School in 1965, Sonny went on to serve in the US Army.

On January 9 1980 Sonny was united in marriage to Jo Ann Horner in a ceremony in Oskaloosa, Kansas.

Sonny owned and operated North Side Antiques and Auction Service, located in North Lawrence for over 17 years.

After retiring, Sonny spent his time acquiring rental properties and enjoyed maintaining them as well as meeting those who would become his tenants. Those who knew Sonny, will remember that after a good visit with friends and family, he would leave with a smile and the phrase “Glad you got see me,” and we always were.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother Monte Reed Dolan, a grandson Tucker Dolan, and his wife Jo Ann Dolan.

He is survived by his sister Deborah Skeet, (Billy) of Tonganoxie, Kansas, son Thomas “Tommy” Dolan III, (Trish), of Topeka, Kansas, stepsons William Haas (Sinthia) of Lawrence, Kansas, Mike Muilenburg (Valerie) of Salina, Kansas, and six grandchildren

Visitation will be held at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence Kansas on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, from 6:00-7:00 pm. Graveside service will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at 11:00 am on Thursday April 14 2022.

The family suggests memorial contributions go to Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. The family will be donating to an Alzheimer’s foundation at a later time.

 

Robert E. ‘Bob’ Rose

Robert E. “Bob” Rose, 98, of Lawrence, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 8, 2022.

Bob was born on January 31, 1924, in a rural home northeast of Perry, Kansas, the son of Albert Ayer Rose and Bessie Button Rose. After attending Buck Creek and Perry schools, he worked on local farms. Later, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served on the USS Wakefield during World War II.

After returning home to Kansas, he married his lifelong companion Leda E. Ridlon on October 20, 1948, in Yellville, Arkansas. They had a farm in Clinton, Kansas, then moved to Lawrence when the Clinton reservoir was built. Together Bob and Leda shared 64 years of marriage. She preceded him in death in 2013.

Bob was a heavy equipment operator and proud member of Operating Engineers Local 101. He retired in 1988. He loved raising horses and delighted in watching passersby admiring the ponies in the pasture at his home in east Lawrence. He and his Shetland ponies would draw a crowd when they pulled a wagon through local streets and walked in local parades. Bob was a big sports fan and spent many years as a youth baseball coach. He also enjoyed competitive team calf roping, dancing with Leda, camping, boating, trotline fishing, reading and watching Westerns, and spending time with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and a large network of friends.

Survivors include four sons, Robert Rose and wife Wendy, Monte Rose and wife Sharon, and Randall Rose, all of Lawrence, and Joe Rose and wife Diane, of Roseburg, Oregon; a daughter, Becky Wright, Lawrence; 10 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

A memorial visitation will be Thursday, 6-7 PM, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence Humane Society, in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044.
